I'm looking for a desktop PC (workstation only) which i can run 3 screens on for office work (MS Office & web browsing) and probably Netflix. I currently use my aging gaming PC which i want to get away from using as rarely game and want to separate work and personal use.

I would prefer not to build if possible and i don't have a set budget.

Any recommendations?

Thanks.

Are you looking to get rid of your old system, or are you keeping it for light gaming and getting this new office rig entirely for work use only? If you plan to get rid, what's your current PC specs? You could maybe upgrade it.

If getting this as a 2nd system, is it just a new modern office PC you want? Do you need a new monitor? Zero plans to game on it? You don't use any CPU intensive programs, just plain and simple web browsing and MS Office work?

I rarely game and its an aging PC (i7 3770k 16GB RAM, ATI R9 290 4GB). I currently have 2 older 27" screens which i will replace over time.

I have a load of data on my current PC which will need to be moved off to a NAS but that's for another day. I wont be breaking it anytime soon.

Only plain and simple MS Office and Web browsing.

Dell have suggested an XPS 8930 £789.00 (Ex. VAT @20%) which seems a higher spec than i need but that might be due to needing 3 screens.

Do you have an SSD in that current PC? If not, I can't see why you can't just chuck one in and continue using it.

The 3770k should be ample for just office/browsing use. If you already have an SSD, what feels slow to use?

EDIT: Also defo overkill looking at Dell XPS 8930 desktops for a simple browsing PC. Something like a GTX 1650 or RX 580 will be perfect for a 3 monitor output... (ironically also a good gaming card still too :D)

EDIT2: That GPU can run 4 monitors I believe too, quick google found the MSI model has 2x DVI, 1x HDMI and 1x DP outputs on it?

I do have a spare SSD i could use but to be honest i would rather just buy an office PC and then i can separate work and personal stuff.

This PC has a Corsair water cooler and the GFX has an upgraded heatsink/fan so want something that is quieter and kicks out less heat.

To be honest i could probably get away with using 2 screens.

OK fair you seem pretty set on wanting a fully separate rig for work :D Give me 5 minutes...

Another option is a laptop any use to you, would it help being portable? You could grab something like a Dell laptop with a docking station (google Dell Dock WD19) hooked up to your monitors, with the benefit of being able to take it away at any point...

If portability of no use to you, then of course stick with a desktop, just throwing the idea out there if work is a big focus for you.

I actually do have a laptop work have supplied me but i only use it for Teams and Skype meetings when i work from home. The other option i suppose is to buy a dock for it. My company will give me a keyboard, mouse and a screen but no dock :(

How dare they... No dock! :p What make/model laptop is it?

You could potentially grab a dock then and save a lot of ££ buying a whole new PC

How about something like this:

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £534.80 (includes shipping: £0.00)

OCUK would build this for you for a fee if you asked, so you'd get full system warranty etc through them. You'd need to install Windows yourself but that's easily done via USB and keys are cheap enough.

It'd actually be excellent if you ever wanted to change it into a gaming rig down the line, slap in a better GPU and you've near 7700K performance from that CPU. If you need more CPU performance I'm sure you'll be able to pick a cheap 8-12c CPU up in a couple of years.

I would double check that the GPU I've listed will support three screens simultaneously however.

Not sure how much storage you need for your work, it might be viable to dump the HDD for a larger SSD.

You'd probably get away with 8GB of RAM but at current prices you might as well spring for 16.

Case is chosen for the silence factor, but much of it is personal preference so you might prefer something that costs half as much.

Dell Latitude 7490

The benefits of using my own PC is i have control over it as i work in security.

I don't need hdd disks as i have 2x250GB SSD drives i can use.

I have built PCs in the past, just not for a good few years.

I need HDMI and display ports for my monitors. Looks like USB C seems to be quite popular now.

Fair enough, you can discount them from the cost of the above, £435 seems pretty healthy for such a build to me.

You could look at a Nvidia 1050 or AMD 570 or so for driving your monitors if you were to go for the build I suggested.

If you check the members market you can get some very good prices on cards capable of driving triple monitors that have the outputs you need.

As @Gray2233 suggests either buy something used, or in effect you're just buying yourself a modern entry/mid level gaming rig for work... :p

If you can warrant it and don't mind if it's going to be your new home/work rig, then you'd end up something like this...

Total: £588.94 (includes shipping: £0.00)

Even if i built a gaming pc i don't get time to game. I haven't since my daughter was born and she is 4 next month :(

Thanks for the specs, looks like i might have to build one.

There are quite a few companies that sell cheap Windows licenses.

My current Asus monitors are both 27" 1920*1080 @60hz. I've had them for so long that i have gotten used to how bad the resolution is. Any recommendations for replacements?

Take a look at the Shuttle XPC Slim boxes. The DS series support 3 displays (HDMI, DP, and VGA). Or there's the XPC Cube series if you need a GPU.

If you're going to go B450, the MSI Mortar motherboard (for the same price) is guaranteed to work with the 4000 ryzens so if you wanted down the line you could sell your cpu and just plonk one in if you feel the need.

For £15 more you could get 16GB of 3600Mhz Patriot viper memory. 3600Mhz is the sweet spot for Ryzen.

Kolink isn't a good PSU. Kolink is like a swear word on here, I personally would get one with a better reputation. If your PSU goes it can also take out your components.

Seasonic, Super flower, Corsair are well regarded PSUs. There's a Phanteks and a Nzxt that gets recommended .

:)

Is B450 ok? I've not built a PC fully in probably 10 years.
