You could use cube cart, i'd also suggest using paypal as youll be selling though ebay as well to keep it simple.

Are you just trolling now?

Go easy on the bloke - if he thinkgs its viable and he can make it work then good luck to him. He has a point, if we all listened everytime someone said it couldnt be done then we'd all be getting nowhere fast!

Do you think Sir Alan Sugar would have listened to this advice

I didn't think you'd take my advice onboard. :)

You're being completely naive if you think you can take shortcuts to start your own 'online PC store'. For a start, there's just so much competiton out there already. To take shortcuts like you seem to be doing is crazy.

I'd knock the idea on the head unless you can fork out the money for a decent, professionally done website.

I'm just giving my opinion. I wish him all the best with his venture but in my opinion he's just got his head in the clouds!

Another point is: it does not matter if you are wanting to open a conventional store or an online store you will need a capital investment to start things off, a business plan, advice on tax/vat, premises to keep stock and insurance for those premises etc etc. Have all these been considered?

unless you've got about £100k up front, are looking to turn over tens of thousands minimum a month and have dedicated servers and some skilled staff, I wouldn't even bother thinking about accepting payment cards yourself - use worldpay or someone for that

a nice idea for getting a shop on the cheap might be to approach a final year student at university and see if (s)he'll build you one. a lot of courses involve group projects now, and they actually do sometimes turn out some genuinely good software! my final year project's still being used commercially :-)

He's not even considered market segmentation, targeting and product positioning. ;)

(I'm only saying this because I was up till 4am last night writing a report on it :( )

I dont know if anyone else has said this but it is entierley inappropriate for you to ask a question about creating a competitor to OCUK on the OCUK website so I dont know why the dons havent removed this.

I dont know but Ill support any one who thinks that they can make a go at it and rather than every one being critical why dont you be positive point out what he need to look at not what hes not looked at so he will fail, he wants to do some thing and we should help him but him trying to use a Computer hardware site to findout about setting up another competitor to this site is not appropriate and should not happen.

Well he has had quite a bit of help in this thread and frankly if this is his attitude I doubt he can do much towards taking down OcUK :p
