new pc budget £5000

My home cinema and PC aren't in the same room, and really wouldn't work, just different room layout, with speaker/TV positioning etc, sitting on a office chair on a desk, needing TV and speakers dead center etc. Console in the cinema would work though.

My desk is in the corner of the room with my TV more central on the wall, I run speakers when using it but when at the monitor I'm generally on headphones (Audeze LCD2 + Woo Audio WA7/Fireflies).

Ideally I'd have a small box room off a larger basement type cinema area and run necessary cables through the wall from the PC, bit of a faff though and not viable in my current place.

Regardless, the Q990D is a very nice bit of kit for the prices you can get it for imo and does offer a good cinema/gaming experience without having a large footprint.

i see I've missed a few chats...

I think might be fun to start a thread in maybe gpu section about ram useage...I'm really curious now what actually does use 32gb or more other than DCS, which from their forum can chomp thru 128gb

my little test

cyberpunk..4k ups the ram, but not by a lot..so 4k, ultra with ray tracing on (not full path tracing) but all reflections etc and i put fsr3 on to increase framerate to see if that would do anything and am runnig at 20.1gb use..set output to 1440p and dropped to 19.6gb

hogwarts 20.2gb...though did 21.5gb with 15 chrome tab, 1 yt open, maps, and bbc news website

did have instance of leaving cyberpunk and openning hogwarts where went to 28gb...still playerd fine, but left to check what was going on, and went to task manager. for some reason that dropped my ram useage to 13gb, and when i went back into hogwarts it ran at 19.2 to 20.2, but couldn't get it above that, and 21.4 when left and openned 15 tabs rtc...think that might be something making sure a game is fully closed before openning another

returnal 18.9gb, 4k epic with rt

indy jones, supreme with pathtracing high and fsr 22.1gb at most, go to medium setting drops to 20gb...actually got 50-60 fps full pathracing with fsr performance mode..didn't actually think that would be possible

Control, everything on max, 17gb

subnautica...15gb

avatar got to 23.1gb as my largest usecase..had 2 chrome a/c open though only 8 tabs, my steam open, ubisoft a/c open and xbox open too

As a guide, @PAULRYAN52 , you stated you play Football manager, FC25 and eurotruck sim2? Anything else...footy manager runs on 5gb ram, euro truck less than 8gb. FC25 uses about 17gb too (max 4k settings with a 4090) so at least you've broken the 16gb mark for ram useage. you planning on playing asny more modern games?

so what's the final build
I'm trying to find the bit about the gigabyte card in the owners thread but it's already 58 pages long... if you do plan on connecting 2 tv's as such rather than monitor, only gigabyte and sapphire do dual hdmi/ dual display port..the others are 1 hdmi and 3 display port...

hi only other games are planet zoo, forza, and need for speed, current build is

Case Antec Flux PRO
MB Gigabyte AMD B850 AORUS ELITE
CPU AMD Ryzen 9 9800X3D
CPU Cooler Arctic Liquid Freezer III 420
RAM Corsair Vengeance Grey 64GB 6000MHz
SSD Crucial T500 2TB
GPU Sapphire 9070 XT NITRO+
PSU Antec HCG1200 Pro Platinum

Still contemplating 5090 as I have decided to upgrade to 4k in future

forza 4k with a 4090 uses 13gb ram, need for speed is 11gb...planet zoo can run on 16gb(things like planet zoo, footy manager etc...these are more cpu intensive games, rather gpu intensive)
i'm using a 9070xt nitro+ with a 4k lgc4 tv..I mainly do single player..it's absolutely fine, and seeing as you seem to play older games, is even more than fine

one thing I would say is getting the 1200w psu allows you to upgrade your gpu no problem down the line..if you look at it like this...a 5090 costs £3k...a 9070xt costs £700...so you've saved £2300...come next gpu releases, the next set of gpu's will be faster...you could probably buy a £1k card then which will be a lot faster than the 9070xt (next gen they said they'll do higher end models again) and you'll still be £1300 less than the 5090...plus you can sell the 9070xt without loosing your backside
if you just plan on keeping the 9070xt and not upgrade, might as well just get a 850w psu for £120 and save £100

anyway..100% you'll be happy with the 9070xt...I've got no problem playing 4k. It's a more than capable card . currently watching a guy play need for speed at 4k getting 110fps with a 3080ti and a 5900x(and gpu is 99% so bottlenck in game)...a 9800x3d and 9070xt will blow that out the water...you'll be playing high refresh rate gaming don't worry

It's a nice rig...one other thing you could do is get a 2nd ssd tbh...I've got my steam/xbox/ubisoft all on the same 2tb sn850x..it's great, but I'm def going to add another ssd and have my games library seperate to the rest. It's just cleaner and if ever I reinstall windows etc, I'm not going to loose my library...just a faff having to redownload it all. Personally, I'd take that over 64gb ram which might not get utilised...however, as your budget was a little larger originaslly, you have the privilege of doing both if you want. You might even be tempted to try a few more modern games ..push the boat out so to speak

what was your previous pc by the way? the techpower up is good for comparing..you can click on the gpu you had and then see how much better the new gpu is by comparison

I'm just about to go to bed...but you having issues playing any of your games with that rig? 9070xt is 33% faster than the 6900xt...nitro faster than stock also, and the new cpu will unlock a lot....but your current isn't a slouch by any means

Did not know you have such a system, honestly myself I would just upgrade upgrade the GPU to 9070xt and get a Ryzen 5700x3d and ride out the pc market this years, everything is a mess right now both supply wise and price wise, this would play everything you have listed comfortably and save the money for next big GPU and CPU release in 2 years time. you can sell your 6900xt for about £300 and put that towards your new GPU and sell your CPU for about £120-£150 and upgrade to 5700x3d.

Even if you upgrade to a 4k monitor you can still play games with some adjustments, I am gaming on 4k tv with rtx 6950xt and much slower processor and honestly its provided me with good experience, maybe not 240mhz type experience but very playable.

if you still want to complete new PC and not upgrade, you can get good price for your current pc and put that towards the cost of your new PC.

what it worth would you say
forum rule do not allow discussion of pricing item outside the "price check" thread in the members market section, you will need to have access to it. I think you qualify to access the members market, it requires 1000 posts and being a member of the forum for a few years which you do. Make a thread there and someone will help there.

Morning..so the itch hit, suspected as much looking at your current rig and games you play...just get the 9070xt..next gen cards you'll prob get the itch again...at least this way you can talk yourself getting a gpu upgrade knowing you still have £2300 in the bank from not getting the 5090...that's just a ridiculous price now I think

thread regarding fan noise on gigabyte cards..was confirmed in the 9070xt owners thread too..I'd stick with nitro+ out of the two on back of that of the two you were looking at

in meantime heres the gigabyte oc card...no rgb..the 9800x3d will perform the same as the 9950x3d he's got in, but at least it shows what card can do at 4k..might put your mind at ease

I generally upgrade roughly 3-5 years apart
It's widely agreed that spending a huge amount for one PC is worse value than buying a mid-range PC and then upgrading said mid-range PC after 2 or 3 years when faster products have been released but it's entirely up to you and what you want from a machine.

Don't overspend I learned that myself years ago getting £2500 pc. Went out out date pretty quickly that was time where 3d was new

Can get perfectly decent machine for sensible money.

If you already have decent spec pc only upgrade when you need to. Don't go from am5 hex core to am5 octo core pointless, as an example

But if he wants to spend x amount and makes him happy to do so then why would you ago against this?
