Afternoon everyone, its been a while since I bought some kit to build a new PC but I'm looking to get back into it again with a new gaming rig.

The spec I am looking at is:

Corsair Carbide 275R White Glass Midi PC Gaming Case
ASUS Intel Z690 PRIME Z690-A PCIe 5.0 DDR5 ATX Motherboard (from other site)
Intel 12 Core i7 12700K Alder Lake
Corsair DOMINATOR Platinum RGB White 32GB 5600MHz DDR5 Memory Kit
Samsung 970 EVO PLUS 500GB M.2 NVMe PCIe Performance SSD/Solid State Drive
Corsair RM750x White 750 Watt Fully Modular ATX PSU/Power Supply

So as you can see, abit of a white themed build going on and I need a graphics card to go with it

How does this build look, any recommendations on changes or graphics card?

Do you need or have to have DDR5?

DDR4 works fine and it's much cheaper.

What are you using it for? Gaming or video editing or what? Can impact RAM suggestion.

No urgent need for DDR5 if the benefit isn't there. Happy to go with DDR4 as it'll mainly be used for gaming, photo editing and office tasks

Likewise it doesnt really need to be Intel - happy to switch to AMD if there is a good alternative

I might consider waiting for 13th gen and RTX 4000 series but this is a good build

I would get the white 3080 Gigabyte instead of the 3070ti but it's in stock and I wanted to give you an option given that you wanted a white build.

RM850 white is out of stock but has a 10 year warranty and is coming back in stock soon. Get that instead of the RMX750.

My basket at OcUK:

Total: £1,713.08 (includes delivery: £13.20)

Cheers both, white items seem a bit harder to come by so dont mind going black items for some (memory, graphics card and cooler maybe)

As for the old Intel -v- AMD debate, is the 12700k really worth the extra or is something like the AMD 5800x a better option?

5800X isn't as fast at the 12700K.

5800X3D is faster than a 12900K in gaming only.

The ram I linked to above can be had for £134. The cheaper patriot viper ram has been reported to sometimes have problems running at its rated speed so that why I have avoided it.

For little more money a 3080 can be had in black.

Ok so bit of shopping around and looking at the recommendations, I'm thinking of the below

Corsair Carbine 275r
Corsair RM850 White PSU
Asus Prime Z690-P DDR4 ATX
Intel i7 12700k CPU with nzxt Kraken X63 280mm AIO cooler
2 x 16GB Corsair DDR Vengeance Pro 3600
Palit GeForce RTX 3080 Gaming Pro
Samsung 970 EVO Plus 1TB M2 HDD

Sorry some items aren't in stock so couldn't add to basket to drop in the nice looking list haha

Think I've took on some of your recommendations

Yeah man, pretty good.

The crucial P5P drive I specced is cheaper (ATM), faster and has the same warranty as the samsung. Samsung drives are over rated IMHO.

This ram:

Also your carbide 275 wont fit a 280 radiator in the roof which is the best place to put it.

Rather frustrating that a lot of coolers require additional fittings for the LGA 1700 socket - is there any that come with them as standard or even fit without needing them?

Most companies will send you the socket 1700 bracket or include it in the cooler when you ask. Some will charge you for the optional bracket. Noctua includes it as far as I recall.

The one recommended above https://www.overclockers.co.uk/cors...0-rgb-120mm-pwm-fan-3-fan-pack-bu-03t-cs.html says compatible with socket 1700 so I've queried with OC to see if it really is or if it comes with the brackets
the elite capellix series was released with socket 1700 compatible from the off, so everything good for intel 12th gen...remember phoning them up about it..when alderlake 1st released these were basically only aio's OCuk sold that were 100% compatible from the off...everything else was requiring conversion kit which you had to buy seperateley of phone manufacturer and get sent to you

AIO is overrated get a chunky heatsink :D

I've got a D15 Chromax with a 12700k

Ambient temp 25c, CPU package idle temp 31c, 100% load for a full minute only hit me 60c (almost 68 before I undervolted)
no need to worry about failings pumps and probably less noise.
Noctua coolers are also slightly convex so no need for washer mod or aftermarket retention bracket to get cool temps that you would need with a totally flat cold plate

It was pretty simple to install as well and idiot proof unless your heavy handed and over tighten things like a mental patient

added bonus the heatsink will be so close to your graphics card it probably sucks heat straight off the GPU backplate
