After you guys helped me decide on my gaming PC, my Dad was so impressed he now wants similar:

Finally decided my old pc is to slow after my son got himself a new pc!!

Budget around 500 - 600

Thinking: Intel Core i5 3570K,1155, Gigabyte GA-Z77-D3H, not sure about the rest, I have a 250gb samsung ssd to throw in, not after playing many games so doesn't need to be a gaming machine, mainly interested in speed, will use for some basic video editing, photoshop etc. Case plenty of front USB not bothered about window, looking forward to your recommendations

using onboard vga, for me i'd stick in a card, even a mid range one would help with what you need it to do. but then budget gone, if you don't need o/s that would easy get you a basic video card so you could use both etc

8gb might be a bit tight for photoshop, dependent on version etc and use of course, for me i'd like more then again it can be slow, i added 16gb just as i have it and also use 16gb and it runs great

Sorry forgot to mention, need tower but no OS, and already got HDD Thanks, thinking of a gfx card as I may play the odd game but nothing serious

case might not be the newest, and only 2 front usb's but very good case, good cooling and plenty pf space, looks nice and built very well, might be a bit on the heavy side for some

Right Okay, Well I had a think and came up with this.

Antec P280 Super Midi Tower Case - http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-168-AN&groupid=2362&catid=160&subcat=

GeIL Black Dragon 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 1333MHz - http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-118-GL&groupid=701&catid=8&subcat=1516

Seagate Barracuda 7200RPM 1TB 64MB cache - http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HD-257-SE

Case comes with fans, don't worry about that, also that motherboard comes with an after market cooler, so that's nice plus. Also a 1TB hard drive for nice amount of storage, it will fly with the OS on that SSD. Motherboard also has some PCI slots for whatever and ofc PCI-E 3.0 that graphics card :)

Hope this helps get back to me if you have any thoughts.

RJC has done some nice specs there. I'd lean to the GB 7850 though for £5 more. 3 year uk based warranty and the GPU is clocked faster out of the box

Mini-itx if he fancies something a little different. The mobo is out of stock but can still be ordered, it does include wifi which is a nice touch. PSU is gold rated for a little more, the P&C PSU is also seasonic but it's bronze rated.

If the 7850 is "too much" then maybe consider a 2nd hand 1GB 460 or a 6850, they should be circa £50 and outperform any GPU you can buy new upto £100ish

Wow some good specs and options here many thanks I think a i5 will be plenty, if I can scrimp a bit more I think I will go for a GFX card as well liking RJC cheaper option and looking at some of the specs from marshalCooler, don't think we are far away now :) In the time it took to type this I had 5 reply's added wow

Off out for a meal but many thanks guys I have plenty to chew :)

That MSI mobo is voltage locked so not ideal for overclocking fella. The GB Z77-D3H would be a better shout. It has a 3 year uk based warranty and a dual BIOS. It also has the lucidMVP software which can switch between the IGP and GPU as needed to save power, the IGP can also boost the GPU whilst gaming.
