New PC for my boy

Pics is a must. Plus his your son, if your happy with him playing WOW, who are we to tell you? :D

Great case for a budget case. Also black internals to go nice with the window.

So yes, picssss

Good case! Hards to beat for £40. Only gripe is the serious lack of cable management... it's non existent and this makes it a pain due to the side panel being perspex. The only thing to do is buy a big bag of tie wraps and adhesive tie wrap bases.

I did a build in the case last week and I used a total of 29 tie wraps and around 8-10 bases to keep this thing tidy. It took me a good two hours to get it perfect. It looks great... however, it would have been done in half an hour to an hour with a better case.

Although it's pros definitely outweigh it's single con. Oh and the metal behind the optical drive bays are a nightmare to remove... I've dealt with three of these cases and are all the same.

That's being nitpicky though. I haven't seen a better one aesthetically pleasing or practical for 40 quid. :)

Oh dear... Did I just do a mini review :(

hey guys, put my computer together over the last couple of nights, all went together pretty smoothly, clicked the power button and it powers up for 2 secs max and then shuts downs again. it simply wont do anything else. strange very high pitch noise coming from the psu but nothing that if it worked i would overly think about.

i've done a bit of googling and seem to find that its a bad mobo. not sure if you guys have any ideas ?

Try an out of case boot, something could be shorting it. You did put the standoffs in your case yes? The whine from the PSU could be a coil whine, nothing to worry about. Could you upload a couple of pictures just to see how its setup?

unfortunately i haven't got my camera, but i will upload some tomorrow after work. ive tried everything other than mobo and processor, still responds the same

Have you got another mobo or cpu of the same socket you could test it in? Otherwise you will end up having to pay delivery on them both.

Hi Bizrix, i had a very similar problem recently with an intel i5 2500k build and it turned out to be that the power supply was too feeble. I had an OCZ 600w and it wasnt man enough for the job. I would recommend looking at ordering another power supply and trying that. Something branded and good quality would be the ideal.

I had a right pain sending back mobos and cpus to another co. Who then sent them back saying they worked fine after tests only for me to try them and it still all didnt work. Iordered a new motherboard and that came and lo and behold, that didnt work either. Having ruled out cpu, gpu, mobo and ram i went off down to pcworld and bought a new psu and it all worked fine! Everything i read on the inet suggested that the mobo was bad, but it wasnt. Hope this helps

yup put the stand off in the case. my psu is a corsair, so i guess its branded. not sure if its man enough i think its 430, but im running i3 on a budget build. so it should be capable enough to at least fire up the mobo and processor right? i also added a bit of thermal compound as when i removed the hsu i could see that the pre applied paste wasnt nearly enough, so i applied an even layer. Still nothing. im borrowing a computer tomorrow to try and test this out. always been worried about moving the processor after its been housed. is that a safe process?

I had a similar problem recently. Put everything together, all the fans start wirring and then it would die and not restart until I flipped the clear CMOS jumper. In my case it turned out the CPU was dead. I tested it in 3 different motherboards and tested another chip in my board (which worked fine); you should do the same if you get the chance :).

Checked the 4 pin and 24 pin from PSU. The big thick cable that goes into the motherboard and there is also a 4 pin that plugs into the top left of the cpu socket, right next to it.

Have you connected the CPU_FAN to the proper header... it's at the edge of the motherboard, don't connect this to SYS_FAN.

You don't need to apply more thermal paste, this will do a lot more harm than good. Intel don't give you too little on purpose, it's the right amount.

Front panel headers in correctly? They're tricky on that motherboard, you have to read the manual to see where they go. Remember the red cables on the wires are + in the manual... positive.

Try using only one stick of RAM in the slot closest to the CPU. Alternate modules... (use each one)

What beeps is the motherboard making. It has a built in speaker. Short beeps? Long beeps? No beeps?

Hope this helps... if not, get back with answers and I'll advise more. Done a few builds recently using this mobo... so have experience with it. Along with the other parts.

The motherboard should beep frantically. If you can find a little outboard speaker to connect to the mobo jumpers, it should help with the diagnostic. Dead hardware is more unlikely than user error.

First thing to do is a 'reset cmos', and re-seating everything. Make sure you don't have the reset and power buttons mixed up, and that kind of thing.

Hey guys. Sorry it's been a while to reply back on whats happened, had a hectic time that took me away from my pc.

Anyway, after getting home from work the next day, feeling confused about the pc. i push the power button and it powers up, I install windows, and everything else! give this bad boy pc to my boy for xmas and get the biggest hug i've ever had. Get home and set up the pc next time mine. turn it on, install wow. = fall head over heals in love with overclockers forums.

Seriously guys, for the money I couldn't have asked for more.very fast boot up, couldnt complain about anything 60fps stable on good settings for graphics on wow.

All I can say is thanks a lot guys from the bottom of my heart :)

I'll get some pics up as soon as i can :)
