New Photography Competition Judges - Applications & Nominations in here

Oh do grow up.
Oh please!! I'm just fed up of seeing a perfectly good section getting all bitter and twisted, falling into chaos and stating what's obviously going to happen.

With your help, yes.

We need to be careful here now, it's a shame but it appears that a large number of knowledgeable people are now moving on. Spie, are there a good number of suitably knowledgeable applications for these positions?, as it'd be unfortunate if this didn't work out well for the competition.

People need to remember that posting here is a priveledge not a right. That's all. If people want to throw their accounts away by being all big and hard with the admin, that's fine. It won''t change a single thing here and is a sad reflection on how much they really think of these forums.

It will however reduce the number of people on the forums :p

It will, through their own actions. We have always had Forum Rules. They apply to every member and can be found here - http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/faq.php?faq=vb_read_and_post

They apply to every single member no matter how good a photographer they are. If anyone breaks the forum rules they can expect their account to be suspended or in particularly serious cases, banned. These Forum Rules have not changed materially for 5 years.

I'd like to remind everyone of what this all stemmed from on the photo forum, which is that of reorganising the competition. That's all.

We therefore need to be a little more careful about pushing people away. It's not an intended affect, but this situation has become a little heated now, and we all have to tread a bit more carefully than normal :) Lets not try to push people away, lets try to bring this back to what it was originally about and try to get the proper community feeling back again. After all, this photo forum is about helping each other, not trying to push people away :)

Lets try to keep some knowledgeable people here, so it doesn't just become a 'show your holiday snaps' forum :D

I think SDK^ would be a possible judge, he seems clued up and is quite fair in his comments :)
Thanks for the nomination but unfortunately I don't have the spare time required to judge photos.

its a real shame that as i was about to nominate you as well. i thought you would have made a very capable and honest judge imho :)

Oops, seems my suggestion had some consequences!

Edit: What I meant by "general public" is someone who is amateur/hobby photographer and knows a few things of whats gone into a photo, not nearly everything that has. I agree that having someone who is completely knowledge less is pretty much pointless.

Scuzi defiantly should be a judge tho :D , I wouldn't mind being one but im sure there are better people out there than me for the job :)

I'd like to nominate SilverPenguin. Not sure how often he is on, but he seems pretty experienced :)

I could be the general judge if you guys want.

I would have the experience to assess them from a Photoshop/editors perspective, but being that I just got my first camera I'm still technically a noob ;)

I would like to nominate Lowrider007, though I havent seen him in the comp for a while I always remember him to have a good eye and have calm and good opinions.

I think he would be good as he would be critical but also very open and fair in his judgements

Thank you very much for the vote of confidence guys! Unfortunately whilst I would love to be a judge, in a couple of months I’m going to be traveling around again so probably won't be able to guarantee availability. I think what we need is a stable judging team for a little while to get everything back on track! + I would really miss entering the competition.

Off the top of my head I would have to say Raymond Lin for judge (were you one ages ago?!?). Fstop11 would have been awesome, shame Spie has said no…

Indeed you would have been superb. I don't want to open this whole issue up again, but I must correct you on one point about fstop11. As I have said before he was one of my personal favourites, but after his very open and public criticism of here/me elsewhere that option was withdrawn.

Problems only happen by and large on these forums when people think the forum rules don't apply to them. It happens every year or so when a group of individuals decide they are the forums. Their bravado fueled by the their fellow group members inevitably leads to suspensions and bannings which is a real shame. But the rules are here to stay. In fact they were always here. The only thing that changed was that some thought they were so important they didn't apply anymore. That's was and always will be a mistake.

I feel quite sad that so many talented individuals have felt the need to argue and put their accounts on the line. Of course the more level-headed didn't do that but maybe post elsewhere more often now. Maybe they will return or maybe not, but at least they can do so at the click of a mouse.

People have short memories regarding this place. The time, money and dedication that I have put into these forums over the last 8 years has been nothing short of incredible. I don't think most people have a clue. It hasn't been easy but despite occassional ups and downs it's a great place to learn and share. If you care about any subject not just photography, then this is a good a place as any.

The Judges will be announced later.
