There are some very basic rules that need to be followed:

1) No pattern shirts; they should be perfectly ironed and crisp, plain, ideally high quality cotton.

2) No pattern ties; they should ideally be completely plain or with a very tiny 'squaring' or similar.

3) Tie should reach to just over your belt buckled/waistband.

4) Button your collar, or at minimum have the tie tight enough to simulate it.

I've worn pattern ties and shirts to interviews before with great success although the patterns have always been faint stripes or matching coloured stripes Both expensive and cheap, I. don't think it matters in that regard where it's from as long as it looks professional.

So easy to follow and you will always look smart. Shame they aren't followed by more.
