**NEW** *Post a picture of yourself thread* - New Rules

I saw your posts in the random image thread; what are you up to? Hopefully not stopping people getting high  (I am genuinely curious)

I'm done now but I spent best part of a week on a drugs search team at a festival. 38k people with a lot of drugs and we're there to do what we can. I'll be honest, it's good fun, but strip searching isn't pleasant, especially after the third day people are camping without a shower :/

Trying to nick dealers or also regular folk out for fun?

Brian18741 Haha your 2nd photo is madder than your first, but i am sincere in saying if you like it that is all that matters. I'm sure baby will be playing it too in a few years time.

Generally only dealers got nicked, but others were dealt with for possession offences without arrest (cannabis warnings, £90 tickets, adult cautions or some were reported for summons).

The outcome depended on the substance, the quantity and their previous history, but yes, we were enforcing the law for people who were just taking it for themselves, albeit less vigorously than we would on the street.

No personal attacks

I'm going to creamfields in 2 weeks time and whilst I understand people want to enjoy it as much as possible it's a massive risk letting people get off their **** on all sorts of drugs. It leads to more fights, accidents and deaths from deyhdration. The states I've seen some people in the last few years is horrific, lying face down in mud comatose etc etc. There's something incredibly wrong if you need to take something to enjoy yourself at a festival. The atmosphere alone is a natural high for me.

Cries about police cuts, then spends ages being buzz killington.

Firstly, the Police don't get to just disregard the laws they don't like (not that I'm suggesting they condone drug use). If you don't like the law, talk to your MP, it's their job to change it.

Secondly, it's important that we have an idea of what drugs are being used during the festival. There may be a particularly pure (or the contrary) batch of MDMA that ends up in people dying. Seizing and analysing this at it happens prevents deaths - deaths that unfortunately happened at the festival last year and maybe involved in the death this year.

The Police can't just sit by and ignore the fact that people are commuting offences, it's the Police's job to enforce the law and that's what they'll do.

Indeed.

Really, the beer monsters are the worst culprits for fighting.

Festivals dont' generally have too much violence. Seeing young people fitting in the mud because they've bought and taken a substance that they have absolutely no idea what it was is pretty unsettling though. And it's not that they've bought something and it's turned out to be something different (although that happens as well) but some simply take whatever they get and don't even know what it's supposed to be.

Although your view point makes sense it jars with the fact you are named after a potent hallucinogenic concoction.:)

At Glastonbury this year I saw a whole lot of love and just one shouty, punchy moron who was full of booze.

I was not suggesting the police shouldn't do their job just wondering what the priorities are. Always seems like a bit of a blind eye.

The safety of the people, in my experience.

If someone gets a bit punchy they might give someone a black eye. Yes, in extreme circumstance it can get worse, but it's much more likely to be worse from someone imbibing random hallucinogens, uppers, downers and whatever else they can get their hands on. That's where the danger lies.

Yes, agreed. I lost a friend to a psychotic episode, I'm not making light of the potential issues.

In my experience of festivals the police presence has always been well balanced. As in they're there if you need them but not heavy handed.
