New puppy

I just don't see why you would spend 500 on a PET that will give you just as much satisfaction (and possibly less) as one from a rescue dog center. I'm the same with watches though, id rather have a £30 watch than a £1k, bu perhaps thats because I'm still young and have no money. Perhaps if I'm ever rich enough to be able to afford these sort of things my opinions will change.

One of my dogs was £700 but I would argue it as a bargain for that particular addition to the family :)

We wanted his specific breed, stock and colour & so that's the price we had to pay and of course didn't mind in doing so.

I feel the 'rescue dog for free' arguement you seem to be setting up is irrelevant.

Rescue dogs aren't free, they ask for a 'donation' which is pretty much required.

Concur, a rat would be a more appropriate name. Should have spent less and gotten a proper dog from a rescue home :p.

Don't insult the rats  :p

I agree though about the rescue dogs. There are so many needing homes at the minute and they can be just as lovable (and even more so) than expensive pedigree doggies.

In all fairness. Bijon Frise are generally nice dogs (even my dad likes them ). Not sure about Shi Tzu mix though. Would still rather have a dog that could eat people! :)

I have two pedigree cats and I don't regret a penny I spent on them. When you get a purebred animal, you know where it has come from and its family history. You also get more of a guarantee as to their personality, as that is something breeders look for in their animals. I've never met a rescue cat that had as sweet a personality as either of my Ragdolls, one of whom has never drawn claws or bitten anyone in over 3 years.

It's not just cats and dogs either, people breed hamsters and rats because pet shop animals are frequently mistreated or can have bad bloodlines which are prone to certain diseases. If you want to know what you're getting in to, then it makes more sense to buy from a breeder. Of course, if people did a little more research before buying animals, there would be a lot fewer rescues in the first place ;).

in my experience the rescue centres are just full of unwanted bull terriers which are quite frankly the most chav tastic dog known to man. Im glad I paid £600 for my pedigree cocker spaniel cos shes great looking and round here you dont see too many of them cos all the chavs have bull terrier types
