Finally, after near on 3 months of looking for exactly the right car, travelling well over 500 miles looking at scruffy examples I came across this and thanks to Natwest nearly lost it too. Nevertheless, here she is, my 1999 Honda Prelude 5th Gen. 2200cc genuine Motegi Limited edition with 200bhp, 4 wheel steer, Air con, Cruise Control, Electric everything.

Shes done just under 93k, with a full Honda service history and receipts for oil changes every 4-5k. All previous owners seem to have treated her with total respect, its in mint condition with only one scratch on the whole car (front wheel kerbing about 5 cm long :( )

The pull from the engine in any gear is amazing and as soon as Vtec kicks in everything just goes a little wild, it reminds me very much of my 2 stroke Aprilia of about 5 years ago, almost as if theres two radically different engines at work in there.

Insurance was so cheap for the kind of car it is, £767.00 fully comp @ 23, 2yr NCB. I got the owner down from £4600 to £3750 after removing the DVD player and uprated air filters. He couldnt be arsed to remove the amp and sub though, so I'm left with an amazing sound system that doesnt sound too chavvy once I turn the sub right down.

looks very nice and nice bargaining power you got there, lovely colour not one you usually see the ludes in.

Thanks Solid,

Yeah, I wasn't 100% sure on the colour at first but its really grown on me.

I'm looking forward to those hot summer days and taking it up the Cat'n'Fiddle for a blast. Might even try attend one of the OCUK meets.

Sorry but that is one seriously ugly machine!

How's performance?

:D Thanks, I suppose its a marmite thing then

As for the handling. I'm not 100% confident with it yet to fully push it. The limited amount of spirited driving I have pushed its way its more than been up to the job. As you'll probably know, the 4 wheel steer system only takes effect sub 20mph, I had been a little worried this may lead to instabilty mid corner due to the rear wheels having a lot of movement in them (They're held straight by large springs) I needn't have worried though, it seems very stable.

I've gone from a 1.4 Rover 200, so having twice as much power really takes a lot to get used to. I suppose Im better equipt than most in my position, having riden an R6 for over a year, but still the power of those brakes is something else.

I've asked my father to take me out in his Civic Type R to see how it compares to that. I've got 200cc more, one gear less but the same bhp. We will see.....

How heavy are these? I still remember going in ramirez's one a few years ago, I loved the vtec though prefered the dc2 i drove a few months later

Looks great.

Bit surprised by the performance (0-60 in 7.4  ) with those spec. Must be quite heavy.

I've heard its 6.7 to 60mph. This is the Motegi version with more BHP remember. Parkers states 6.7 for a manual (which mine is). I'm not 100% sure if this is correct though. It also says the weight of it is 1319KG. I think its more than that.

The 4 wheel steer system is meant to be VERY heavy, add to that a sun roof and air con and it becomes very weighty. The performance is evil as soon as it Vtecs, it has the effect of the whole front end of the car lifts up dramatically. (not too good for cornering i suppose in a fwd car)

I was looking at this. I guess thats the previous gen (which I also thought was quicker than that.)

Very nice, love that colour too. I was *VERY* close to buying a Type-S, but decided on my DC2 instead, just suited my needs better.

Nice cars though, I love the way they look from a rear 3/4 angle

Thanks DreXeL,

I looked at the Type S too, just couldnt afford the insurance as its an import. Saying that, I looked at a DC2 also, and concluded I still couldnt afford the insurance on that either :(

my old ludey (with 4ws, abs etc..) was hitting 0-60 in 6.6 seconds and quarter at 15.0. Wouldnt of thought this version would have been any slower. Unless it was an auto of corse.

I like that a lot. Nice performance, great engine, cool colour, cool wheels... front end looks a bit odd but we can forgive that ;).

Congratulations on the new car :)
