New rider do's and dont's

I did wonder if we'd perhaps strayed a little from the OP although to be honest I'm more than happy to see differing opinions on motorcycling in general... More than one way to skin a cat and all that :)

I did I nice bit of filtering in a number of places last night, only past stopped cars at a lvl crossing and once at some lights I didn't want to wait at the back of.

Both times I didn't dare ride to the front, pulled in a couple of cars back but it was pretty cool. I'm paranoid about getting stuck between a car and the central reservations and I'm still a little shakey at times on the slow speed stuff.
Definitely improving every ride though.
124 mpg too!

Did my first hill start too, with traffic everywhere. Can't say I enjoyed that at all but it went reasonably well :)

Taboo? When I get it right is silky smooth but when I get it wrong it tries to buckaroo me off! I guess that's a good reason to use the clutch!
Plus the mechanical sympathy... Gotta be nicer on the drivetrains with a dab of left hand

OK so I want a disc lock, one with an alarm would be nice. For it to be worth anything with my insurance though it needs to be Sold Secure... Doesn't look like there's one on the market :/ Do I have any options?

Well ours is garaged and it's chained up with a Sold Secure chain as the insurers stipulated but I want to add a disc lock too, more for when I'm out n about etc... I suppose like you say it's best not to tell them I'll have to print the size guide off and check the XX15 fits our disc.

Went on the back of a friends ZX12R (is that right? ZXR1200?) Either way... Good lordy the speed. All on private tarmac of course. The speed that thing red lines 2nd in and then that savage power tries to spit you off again into 3rd... Oh my!

Edit; quick Google, it's a ZX12R

I can't imagine physics would allow anything to be much faster... I mean yeah it's not a nippy little sports bike per se but between corners it's an absolute missile.

It's made me realise why people recommend not to get a litre bike straight off... You can lose your license in 1st gear for christ sake!

So why are these big heavy bikes? Did they put the busa/zx12r/zzr14 engines into smaller bikes? Are they all 'sports tourers' as the ZX12r apparently is? Surely in a dick dance to make the fastest bike they'd focus on making it as light and as basic as possible?

Don't think so although I may be mistaken. It is this very bike taken from his FB account...

Edit; apologies for the crap picture... Ninja though, that's definitely a ZX12r then isn't it? Not sure what the other differences are...
