New Router = Dropping out

I am with Virgin Media 120mb cable. We recently had our router changed to the new SuperHub because we kept complaining about service - download speeds of 120kbps, cannot play BBC iPlayer despite having amongst fastest broadband in the country etc.

The new SuperHub is good except since it was installed I am having issues with my WiFi. The speed is fine, up to 7mb/s, but it randomly drops out and will not reconnect for several minutes. This is very frustrating and next time it happens when I'm playing CSGO will result in me getting a week long ban due to all the times I keep losing connection.

My adapter = rangemax wnv111 v2 (2g only)

Will buying a new adapter possibly 5g compatible fix my connectivity issues?

Thanks

note: other wireless things in the house do not drop out - only me on my PC

I'd recommend an internal netword card with a couple of decent antennas, those USB dongles are really only suited to mobility.

I would buy a set of these TP-Link TL-PA211KIT AV200 Nano 200Mbps Powerline Adapter - Twin Pack and they cost £20 and you can connect one to the superhub and the other to your pc and you will have a solid connection and no need to worry about wireless from the hub to your pc anymore.

I have had no issues with mine and have disabled the wireless adapter on my pc as I have no need for it anymore.

The fault is with the Superhub. Myself and a million other people have exactly the same issue. Virgin will change it out (and in my case charge £50 for the honour), then they will send an engineer or two, finally settling on power levels being too high.

The long and short of it is that the superhub is beyond rubbish and dropping WAN and wireless is one of many symptoms.

The cure for me was to put it into modem only mode and attach a router.

I had assumed the fault was with the SuperHub, as it's always Virgin's fault whatever.

Had so many engineers out, the power levels changed so many times, that it's beyond a joke. They're either truly incompetent or brazenly couldn't care less. I think it's both.

Anyway, I haven't had a single problem with using a USB stick for wireless before. Installing a long ethernet cable isn't really viable.

Will look in to the other options listed here, thanks.

If it was the Superhub then why isn't the rest of your stuff dropping out? is your PC further away?

I'd only ever use a USB dongle for internet on the move not as a permanent wireless solution.

5G is the first thing to drop on the superhub, followed minutes later by 2G, then the WAN ip will drop, requiring a full reboot to resume service. Rinse and repeat for thousands of customers.
