1) Just wondering if this is a good drive, no user reviews out there? Any thoughts on the noise; i would hope its quite since it uses three 1TB platters?

2) May be a bit paranoid hear but would the floods etc negatively affect the quality of new drives? Like having to use cheaper components or rushed production methods? Is it best to avoid new drive till the production state is back to normal?

3) I also think this because of the two year warranty when 3 is usually the minimum no?

4) Is the segate "smart align" thing any good, any issues with it?

whether the retailer offers anything over what the manufacturers have noted above is up to them, in terms of warranty, providing of course that they honour the claims outside the manufacturers warranty period as noted above.
I have found that some retailers are a little slow, or unaware maybe, of the manufacturers warranty length changes.
I bought a Seagate Green 2TB which was fully advertised as having a three years warranty but according to Seagate it will only have two. I have kept all the screen grabs of the advert from the online retailer, just in case.
According to the above information that drive bought now would only have 12 months warranty, from the manufacturer. At Overclockers it is shown with a three years warranty and with another very large online retailer it is shown with....
12-month UK manufacturer's warranty included.

These changes take effect December 31, 2011. All shipments before the effective date will carry the current warranty term associated with those products.

It's possible that OcUK are still selling drives shipped before 31 December 2011 and the other place drives shipped since the change.
 
...ah I was assuming that it meant shipped to the customer as that would start off the warranty dates with all the suppliers at the same time and not what the retailers have already in stock, thus different retailers advertising the same drive with different warranties.

The Barracuda 3TB was easily the quietest high capacity 7200 RPM drive we've tested, measuring 16 dBA@1m when idle and 16~17 dBA@1m when seeking. It emitted a very soft hum without so much as a hint of whine and the seeks were almost unnoticeable. The drive has a hollow sound character that can be masked by pressing against the casing, similar to some single platter models lacking sufficient structural support. Like the Barracuda Green 2TB, the level of vibration was minimal, scoring a low 8 on our subjective scale. It's an impressive accomplishment considering the Barracuda 3TB spins at 7200 RPM rather than 5900 RPM (the platter count is the same and the casing is similar if not identical).

1) Thanks for the replies guys. I was kind of hoping for real-world reviews if anyone has bought this drive?

2) So the short warranty could strengthen my worries of the floods etc negatively affect the quality of new drives by using cheaper components or rushed production methods?

3) Could anyone from over clockers confirm that there is a two year warranty and that over clockers will abide the extra year?

4) Anyone know if the Segate "smart align" thing is good, compatibility issues, performance etc?

Id actually like to get this drive also but still see prices inflated because of the floods ... so may end up waiting a bit
 
I think the price is pretty reasonable; £159 for a 3TB, new, 7200RPM drive so im not worried about inflated prices.

I am more concerned with how reliable / safe / performance / issues there are if anyone has on please comment
