New Simpsons Intro (banksy)

its stupid though

the first series 20 years ago was outsourced to south korea and lots of other american animations and films are.

korea has a world renowned animation industry with an abundance of highly skilled workers. america doesn't. makes sense to me, and its hardly sweatshops.

if he thinks south korea is like that then he comes across an ignorant racist. it is far from a third world country full of sweatshops and forced labour.

i suppose bankys prints his cheapo prints himself and binds all his own books ;)

Well a lot of South korean firms sub-contract to north korean firms which pretty much is forced labour.

North Korea employs animation to deliver various messages to the public, and North Korean animators have been sub-contracted by Japanese , South Korean and European companies. That is why technically they are strong.”

Media experts say North Korean production values are top quality. The state-run SEK Animation studio is one of the largest in the world, employing 1,600 staff working with state-of-the-art equipment.

The Simpsons is usually edgy and funny.
That's just bloody depressing.

Then again - they let Ricky Gervais write an episode... Worst. Episode. Ever.

God I love the Simpsons.
The first 11 seasons are absolute brilliance, after that it became ridiculously mediocre

You think NK is going to produce a catroo nsuch as the simpsons?

Also the earliest source i can find your your quote is a completely unsourced post on "free radio asia"

and a few lines down from your quote is

SEK studios in Pyongyang animated 10 or 52 episodes of the first season of “Pororo,” he said, but Iconix found communications with their North Korean collaborators too cumbersome to continue.

This is a Simpsons intro actually going to be used, taking the **** out of the Simpsons, or am I just missing something?

It's actually used. In fact I'd say the episode it was from was significantly less memorable than the intro. If nothing else that's a win for the intro. :p

Just watched it again and don't think its aimed at the Koreans. I think its aimed at us the consumer and the big companies. We see all these things as trivial products and shows us some of the conditions people go through to make products for us although obviously exaggerated.

And his message : "that if the powerful and wealthy get to force-feed consumerist propaganda to citizens via giant billboards...then citizens have the right to reply in kind."

I have never watched a single episode of the Simpsons, and I'm about as far from being an art lover as it is possible to be...

... however I like Banksy's work, and I liked that. He certainly got the desired message across (i.e. exploitation of both the planet/ecosystem and 'low-valued' human labour to feed western consumer desire for entertainment / trashy purchases, and corporate greed)

;)
