New Sofa vs Dog

I volunteer for a dog rescue charity and that’s par the course for excuses of why people want to hand over their dogs really. Amongst such pearlers as “it won’t get off the settee” and “I didn’t know we’d have to feed it” and “we want to go on holiday and don’t want to pay for a boarding kennel, so can you look after it for a couple of weeks?”

Idiots like that are more common than the genuine cases, as genuine people will normally explore other options and view contacting rescue as a last resort.

Unfortunately we had to re-home our dog of 5 years last year. At the time our daughter had just learnt to walk. Up till then the dog had been perfectly fine with her but as soon as she was self-mobile the dog constantly growled at her even if she wasn't walking anywhere near. One day the dog went for her as she walked past her to get to the kitchen. Thankfully I was in the room & got between them.

The dog was gone by end of day as my daughter's safety comes above all else.

Good on him, Jack Russells are hateful little beasts.

I always disliked small yappy dogs but a friend of mine had a Jack Russell that was an endearing barrel of fun and courage. Stocky little fella as well, built like a sock full of walnuts amd was happy dragging a 3m long branch across a field. He changed my perceptions of smal dogs.

That is an entirely valid reason to rehome a dog. Getting rid of your loving family dog to protect your precious new sofa, isn’t.

I cannot understand anyone who regards their pet(s) as simply disposable.

There can be only one exception to this, and that is aggression towards a family member.

When we moved overseas, our entire planning or how, when and how much had one caveat......could we take our dogs with us.....

As a family we decided that if the dogs were not able to be moved diligently we wouldn't make the move.

Yeah, but people get abortions every day too. One person's morality and attitudes don't have to equal another's.

Fine with that, not fine with getting rid of a dog you've had years.
Do wonder why people like in the OP even get dogs? Something to do perhaps?

Hope they didn't take the ad down and dump the dog! Should just have made a better excuse!

It's just a dog and he is trying to do the right thing. People get sacked from their jobs Every day after 6 years or more of loyal service. No need for outrage.

I know loads of young Swedish women, not like that, that have "lapdogs," stupid little yappy things that Paris Hilton would have had. It is just a fashion accessory for some people. The same way a Chav would have a "hard mans dog."
British attitude to animals is notoriously protective.

I was born abroad, Child of Empire! :D

At the time my Parents also had a Dog. Bringing her home was not only a massive logistical exercise, (Far harder than today) it was also jolly expensive (Back then any Dog brought into the UK had to undergo 6 (?) months isolation in a licensed kennels as a protection from introducing Rabies to the UK)

At the time, My Dad was asked by a collegue, "Why go to all that bother for a Dog?"

My Dad replied "We have a young baby too, It is going to be an effort to take him home as well"

Still causes me problems from time to time even today. I chose not to travel abroad (and in particular America) because I am concerned that my "Place of Birth" might cause me problems, but hey ho!

To have a dog for 6 years (assuming they had the dog since a puppy) and have formed such a miserable bond with it that you can literally get rid of it within a heartbeat for something that it MIGHT do.....

I can imagine!

Moving our dogs was hard enough :

1)Both snub nosed (Pug and Griffon Bruxellois).....a lot of airlines will not touch them.....only Emirates and Lufthansa would (we chose the latter to avoid a Dubai hold)

2)Both pretty old at the time

3)An absolute tonne of paperwork to clear them through the UK's procedures......barely anything for India though.

4)It probably cost me around £4000 to £5000 to move them.

It's just a dog

And its this sort of statement that results in these adverts. Please never own a dog.

Lol at troll accusations. 6 years is a long time, things, people and situations can change.... I used to enjoy premier League football 6 years ago but don't anymore. People in relationships break up and leave other ppl after 6 years. This is hardly news....
