new SSD: what to do with it, how to clone etc

as per title, I have just received my 120GB vertex 2E.

First question: I might not use this as a system drive immediately, as I cba with the hassle of reinstalling everything just now, so if I were to use it just to install a couple of games to, to improve loading times, can I still enable TRIM, and any other SSD goodies I'm unaware of, without it being a system boot drive
This is also due to the horror stories of these drives reliablity, so I could just re-download games if it fails

Second: if I were to migrate my windows installation (which is currently a 100GB partition on my F1 750GB drive), how easy is it to optimise win 7 for SSD (TRIM etc)? I'm 90% sure I'm already in AHCI mode, so hopefully should be ok, and how would I go about cloning the drive in the simplest way.

if cloned, would I just store the disk image on one of my storage drives, so if it fails I could restore it to another SSD at a later date. also, would it just be a case of cloning, then resetting the boot priority in bios to go from SSD first?

Thanks, and sorry for long post about what I assume is a relatively simple task, just wanted to get everything straight in my head before I began!

Thanks, reading the last comment on the HTG (free) link, it seems that I might go with the windows route, looks easier!

anyway, I'm thinking I might not bother with it as a boot drive for now, until I have time to faff with it, if using just as a games drive for the time being, do I still need to worrry about setting disk alignment?

Use it as a Cache drive, of which up to 60GB can be allocated to speed up your entire system and the rest can be used for whatever data you want.

You'll be amazed how much difference a cache drive makes to everything.

thanks for all the input guys, I'll try it as a games drive for a while and see if it makes map loads faster :) good to know I don't have to fret about alignment
