NEW STEAM DEALS!!!!

how bad does GTA 4 look on the low settings? Is it comparable to the 360 version in that regard?

and if played on the lowest settings, does the game still need a quad core to even get a non choppy framerate?

I appear to be getting more steady/faster speeds now, anywhere from 300 to 520KB/s and currently 5% complete. Still going to be here for a while it seems.

And I'm already 8GB over my usage allowance, although Sky sent an email saying 'we won't do anything this time but if you go over again in the upcoming 5 months we will change the package to whatever the next one up is called'. I assume that means I can resume internet usage as I'm already over my limit so whatever I do I will still be going over. I didn't even realise until they sent an email and it seems they have changed the package I am on, it used to be a 40GB per month limit and they have reduced it to 10GB a month. Thats quite ridiculous so we will be leaving Sky soon because we are cancelling the TV subscription anyway.

Here you go mate... these are low settings and you can see what it looks like, along with the framerate in fraps.

As you can see, the fps can go into the 20s especially at night. That's on a Q6600, 4GB DDR2-1066 and 9600GT.

Damn, thanks for that.. looks like ill keep the £5 this time round then, fancied completing it as i never bothered on the console before trading it in.

Hmmmm. I might have to buy a new graphics card then with my Christmas money. What do you recommend at the moment? Like, whats the current bestseller bang for buck card? Oh, one question, will a new card be bottlenecked by my current CPU?

I mean, if I don't need to upgrade anything other than my GPU I don't mind as it saves me money. But if I do need to upgrade the memory to 4GB and get a quad-core CPU I will do.

I reckon the HD 5770 is your best bang to buck ratio at the minute. You'll get one for around 130 quid. What is your current cpu?

Hmm I'm going to try and hold out for anything that looks good over a few quid as it's very likely that the daily reductions will be done on stuff that is already reduced.

I just bought the Shadowgrounds pack as well.

E2180 running at 3GHz. I'm probably going to upgrade my CPU and memory aswell, I posted a spec-check type thing earlier today in the main hardware forum. Although I have been put off from buying ATI now because back in May I bought a 4870 for my system but it just refused to work with my system. It just kept booting into a black screen and I couldn't get the computer to detect the card. I tried several different versions of the drivers and the card was also exchanged to make sure it wasn't faulty and I still couldn't get it to work. So I'm more tempted to go the nVidia route this time to be honest, probably get a GTX260 or something.

how big is gta4 to download? :)

says you need 15gb of diskspace or something

Yep, 15GB. I'm currently downloading and its only at 10% complete, going to have to leave it on overnight until tomorrow morning by the looks of it.

I'm on 44% (GTAIV) and it's still taking the ****! :(

d3molition, best bet is to get a GTX260/4890 both are bang for buck! And upgrade your CPU or overclock it.The game seems to like quad cores more.

90% on gta 4 taken about 13-14 hours :/

although this is 90% updating not instaling now.

The update servers seem to be getting a hammering as the speed has dropped very low.
