NEW STEAM DEALS!!!!

Can't even get GTA4 download to start! Just keeps saying servers are busy, try again in a few minutes - been doing that for over an hour, bloody thing.

Bit of a turn of events here, my GTA IV is downloading quite steadily now at around 500-520KB/s and has downloaded 32%. I'm hoping it will be finished by the time I get up tomorrow.

@ snowy. Have to disagree with shadows option. At high tho not sure which shadow option makes shadows look a lot smoother. In my game shadows are crisp and smooth not rough or or anything anymore.

Anyone managed to get KOTOR to work on Windows 7? Mine crashes after about 10 minutes. Tried limiting it to a single core, tried the widescreen patch, tried running it in XP compatibly mode... nothing. :(

Happens with me as well. I stopped playing after I escaped Taris due to the combination of random crashes, and on save crashes. The latter of which made me afraid to save the game :p.

Does anyone know if you can use windows live for GTAIV on steam for multiplayer?

Or how does it work?

I already have a windows live account. As I had the game previously on hardback.

Download on 58% @ 300KB/s

Why are you running on such poor optimized settings ?
He wanted to see what it looked like and ran like on low, I showed him.

You can easily up the textures to medium, it will barely make any difference to performance.
Yes I can, but he can't with a 256MB graphics card. (actually I think I'm confusing his GPU with someone else's, from reading his next post :D - looks like he has a 9600M GT which is a crippled 9600GT, half the stream processors and only 128-bit memory, as well as lower clock speeds.)

A 9600GT is about as fast as an 8800GT right?
Nearly.

Well, at 1280x1024 and a quad at 3ghz, I cold run it at pretty much all settings at high with fps in the low 30's to high 40's on an 8800GTS512.
You didn't use high textures on a 512MB card because it doesn't let you.

Yes the fps can go 30s-40s - on the settings I used it went into the 60s but it is very inconsistent and as I showed, can dip into the 20s. On higher settings I've even had it dip into the teens. It is a badly optimised game engine.

Just wanted to make sure nobody bought it and was disappointed really - at least it is better to expect poor performance, then you can only be pleasantly surprised if it runs well.

Anybody manage to find Rollercoaster Tycoon 3? Theres a graphic for it in the Atari banner, but the only entry on Steam looks to be a video of the Soaked! expansion.

I thought this would be a good DL now that I have a core i5 I might just be able to get 20 fps out of it. Another game, like FSX, that was about 5 years ahead of the graphics & cpu tech of it's time.

Marvellous, have wanted Defense Grid ever since I played the demo 6 months ago, but was never too keen on the price. To be fair, I'd have paid more than £1.74 for it really!

I just bought Defense Grid also given that I'm addicted to the Geo Defense series on the iPhone, which is another tower defense type game. So that's just two titles that have appealed to me so far with Mirrors Edge being the other.

Hate you lot, just spent £22.

Is it bad that I bought the firs Stalker again for the £1+ it cost because I can't be bothered to route around in my room for it (honeslty don't know where it is).

:D

But for example turning off shadow density would have boosted performance quite a lot and allowed it to look and run far more pretty than it does on your pic while running better.

It does when you use a command line fix... But then again, I did use medium because the ''high'' barely showed any improvement aside from some sharper textures on the paintjob of cars etc and if I went too far over my gpu memory usage pop-up was a problem.

I'm saying it didn't for me... It was always 30+ ( perhaps some drops for 28-29, I didn't keep an eye on the fps counter at all times..) and mostly in the 40's. It certainly didn't drop to 22 anyhow...

Then I would steer clear of the pc version indeed. It's not a game that is suited to a laptop gpu really.

You're confusing 2 settings, I'm on about ''Shadow Density'' not ''Shadow Quality''.

Gta4 doesn't run that bad lol. I didn't measure my fps but it ran fine on my e6420 @3.2ghz and 8800gt 512mb on medium with some high. Felt smooth enough, no lag. Also looks a LOT better than on the xbox (played both DLC on it).

Not to mention it's one of the best games of all time! No, its not the best when it comes to optimisation but it does everything else right! Just buy it ppl :D

I'm not totally sold on Defense Grid. It seems good fun, but at the same time I tend to find games like this frustrating rather than an actual challenge.

I don't really have any tactics, I tend to just survive on luck.
