Well after spending weeks and weeks speccing out a desktop, I've gone and ordered a laptop :D

Managed to find a good deal with dell

New Studio 1747 (the one with the JBL sound system)
Intel i7
17.3" Widescreen TFT
4gb DDR3
500gb 7,200RPM
1GB Radeon HD 4650
9Cell Battery
Wifi
Windows 7 HP 64bit

£760 all in

Might move the HDD to bay 2 and install an SSD

is that with discounts included cant find a i7 laptop from dell without a higher price tag or with less than 6 gig

thats nice. shame i cant get quidco to.

the graphic is ddr2 ram though. will that make a diff with gaming?

I wouldn't play any games on a radeon 4650 to be honest. IMHO Laptops are not meant for gaming. I use my ps3, xbox and wii for that.

None of my pcs have ever had games on them.

That said, I suppose something like the sims might be ok

I'm one of those people that if I can't have everything maxed out then I'd rather not bother, and I refuse to pay thousands to do so.

know what u mean. the game i wanna play are foot man 2010 and comm and conq. i to have a ps3 and wii and will learn to play fps on a pad!

the graphics card ram. i calloed them earlier about another laptop as someone elsewhere said 4650 with DDR or GDDR3 ram is good for gaming, well, better.

so you called and they confirmed it was ddr2? who did you speak to?

I read through the spec sheet and it says gddr3, i will dig it out. I have just ordered one and I am going to be pi55ed if it is ddr2

I hate how dell arent ever clear with their specs

Edit - just spoken to dell chat and they have confirmed it is GDDR3

said 2 wks to me earlier. may spec another but probably the i7 one as it should last a while.

Just created the following via the Dell Deals website, this is with discount and 5% voucher code:

Internal UK/Irish Qwerty Backlit Keyboard
1GB ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4650

17.3” High Definition+ (1600x900) LED with TL

£816.05

Extras I opted for are back-lit keyboard and Blu-Ray writer (no option for a reader on this spec for some reason).

Uses are multimedia, movies (on laptop and HDTV), browsing, not really used for gaming.

Is this a good deal? Any users of this machine got any comments? Anything better for the same money?

Thanks!
