What will be better? I will be running Vista from it and all apps/programs. I think I'd struggle to get everything I'd need on if it was less the 100GB.

Am tempted by the VelociRaptor, but, would going SSD for the extra premium be worth it?

i am looking at the same thing my self i think going for the raptor as ssd just to expensive at the mo and 300gb is nice for storage and games and photoshop and my other drive for films and stuff

Storage isn't an issue really. As long as I have room for Vista, 5 games max and my apps (PS and Office) then that's all I need really, obviously some headroom is always good!

There's going to be a 150GB Velociraptor out soon which may make the choice harder, instant access times vs. more space and longer lasting, effectively. I'd jump at a 64GB SSD for £150 or less myself as that's enough for OS and some applications/games but they're not quite there.

I thought the currently available SSDs didn't really out-perform the Voliciraptor? Just were quieter/etc?

They do on access times, 0.1ms vs. just under 8ms, and that's the only attraction of SSD/Raptors. For transfer rates neither are much faster than a fast 7200rpm drive - not enough to honestly notice, and SSD writes are actually slower.

Yeah. I was aware of the access time thing but I thought that something else negated some of this advantage in some way. Could well have been imagining that though :)

I do agree on the fast 7200 drive vs the raptors though. If I had cash I'd be looking at something like that...as it is I'm just waiting on my raptor RMA to tide me over.
