New system specs

Hi all,

Just need a bit of advice on choosing a new system spec. To start with I will list what I'm currently running...

- AMD XP 2500+
- 1Gb Corsair RAM
- ATI x800XT PE
- SB Audigy 2
- 2 x WD HDD

My budget for upgrade/new system is around £1000 and will be using it for mainly gaming (Battlefield series/FEAR). From what I hear I should be going for the Intel route this time (possibly Intel Core 2 DUO E6600?). Not sure about Graphics Card/RAM/Mobo etc though.

So, pretty much looking for a whole new system I think, minus monitor/peripherals.

All suggestions welcome.

Thanks!

Not sure if you would be overclocking but that spec is based on the fact you will be......

Although its within £92 budget please note you can make it cheaper by:

a) not going for the best gpu available to date
b) getting a case which comes with a psu i.e. the antec slk3000b
c) getting cheaper RAM

Thats a top "bang for buck" performing rig.....

HOWEVER the decision is yours :D

Thanks for the speedy replies!

The budget of £1000 was a rough estimate, I could go a bit over if it was worth it to do so. I doubt I will be doing any overclocking.

Was also thinking of getting 'Antec Nine Hundred Ultimate Gaming case' any opinions on this?

Think I will most likely go for...

Intel Core 2 DUO E6600 "LGA775 Conroe" 2.40GHz (1066FSB) - Retail (CP-128-IN) £191.99
MY-058-GL GeIL 2GB (2x1GB) PC6400C4 800MHz Ultra Low Latency DDR2 Dual Channel Kit (GX22GB6400UDC) (MY-058-GL)
£164.99

£89.99
HIS ATI Radeon X1900 XT ICEQ 3 SILENT Heatpipe 256MB GDDR3 AVIVO TV-Out/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail (GX-061-HT) £159.99

Just not too sure about the rest really.

that combo is great mate,

re: cases if you put up a thread in the cases section with your budget they are great in there and will be able to find something that suits your needs...as my case knowledge is somewhat really limited...

thanks

:) OK.

So now I have a rough idea what I'm after, what would you think about the time to purchase. I have been advised by friends to wait for a little while yet as there is DX10/Quad-Core CPU's coming at the start of next year.

I was going to purchase a new system asap but if it is best to hold out a few months I can handle that. Not that I will be getting DX10 card etc straight away, but I dont want to have to upgrade again for quite a while!

So basically would you buy now or wait and see what the future brings?

i wait...

but remember quad core cpus will not be cheap...

you wont really be using it....its hard to max out a dual core overclocked unless you do a lot of video editing...

depends what u use ** pc for but no matter what you do you will always then need an upgrade if you see my point....

Its true what xirokx says about Quad-core. Same goes for DX10 cards, won't be cheap! Also (good) DX10 games are not round the corner. I'd buy & build now, maybe with a smaller budget?
