just installed HL2 and what a difference i see over my old system:

3200 barton
1gb pc3200
6800nu

HL2 runs sweet as a nut with everything maxed out for ultimate eye candy!

sig is in spec

isnt half, just have to get FEAR extraction point to run in widescreen mode now, real PITA, FEAR will run in 1440x900 no problem but i can seem to get FEAR EP to run in the same res :S any ideas, ive tried widescreen gaming forum and stil no joy!

the time will come when i will 'bodge' the 7900 with a AC freezer lol... hmm i wonder what temps i will get with that combo :eek:
 
Nice one :) , i went from a 1.7 celron, 256mb ram, onboard gfx 32mb to 3200+ winny, 1gb ram, 6800GT a couple of years ago and was gobsmacked. The only games i could play before i upgraded was rogue spear :cool: and SOF2 (just) so when i first saw far cry and hl2 i did a small sex wee :D .
 
Thats almost the exact same upgrade that i did,

A64 3500+ (default 2400Mhz)
2gb G'skill (good ram! shame i had tio sell it)
6800ultra.

to

e6300 @ 3100<hz
2gb Geil DDR 7 x 443
7900GTO 710mhz gpu (1550 ddr).

.....oh whoops, when checking these setting it appears my pc bios has reset as i'm back at default and i hadn't even noticed any differance!

Edit: thats better! Strangly my bios hadn't reset but the memory overclock setting was disabled.... did see this in the bios though but aparently from what i can get from google it happends when you go above the normal Ram voltage than specified... even though i had to for this ram as it's rated higher.

Have you tried setting the file to read only? I believe you have to do that in FEAR Combat otherwise it resets itself on startup :)

Similar upgrade to me.. went from a xp 2800+, 1GB, 9800pro to below. It's amazing being able to play source games and actually control where I'm going...
