Hey guys, just looking on some opinios...

Basically im going to buy:

Athlon X2 3800+, Corsair 2GB Twinx Cas2 2X1gb, Abit At8 crossfire mobo, and a Western Digital Caviar Special Edition 200GB 2000JS SATA-II 8MB Cache...

Been looking at graphics cards...if i buy a x1900 xtx 512mb from connect 3d this will total at £800 basically...

But if i get the Connect3D ATI Radeon X1800 XT 256MB GDDR3 AVIVO TV-Out/Dual DVI, it comes to about £684....

Im going to be playing any game thats coming out and all the previous ones that are out now...in a res of 1024x768 or 1280x1024...hopefully full-ish settings, with AA and AF where i see fit...

Is it worth me buying the X1900 xtx or the X1800 XT???

Im going from an Athlon xp2700 with 1gig of corsair pc2700 and a 9700PRO 128mb...so whatever card i get will be a big boost no matter what really...Any opinions?

Regards...

Im thinking of the price mate...its like £120 more expensive...granted its got 512mb of memory and more pipelines etc etc...just seen benchmarks where a 512mb will do worse than a 256mb one if its run at a lower res....

That CPU is going to bottleneck the card you mention.

My advice is to find a mid point where you can possibly get a faster CPU in that system :)

That cpu will probably overclock to 2.5ghz and higher.

At that speed it would be no problem.

So what go with the X1800 due to it not bottlenecking the system (as) much? or wha?...

Indeed i can overclock...but i dont fancy spending £800 on a new rig and then frying my chip...we arent all made of money :P

I would go x1900 and overclock that cpu.

Most x2 3800's do 2.4ghz on stock volts.

I think you will regret not spending the extra 100 odd quid and getting a flagship card.

Depends really...i just....Dont, overclock lol...

Id rather have something running at what its actually designed to run at...:S

lol...."not really stressing it" :P

Still stressing it...even if u clock it by 10mhz lol...ugh, i hate money.

Rite, with the X1900 xtx...what PSU is required? / recommended...

i have a Hi power 425W Psu...will this run the card? with possibly anything upto a 4400+ X2.....

or should i look into getting the "Hiper HPU-4B580 Type R 580W Modular ATX2.2 PSU" for example...

The X1900XTX will be better at 1280x1024 & with AA/AF on.
But the X1`800XT is a v.good card nonetheless.

I would upgrade the PSU to the 580W if you can.

I have a 3800X2 cpu....which easily OC's to 2.5-2.6 (havent even tried to go higher)...bought a x1900 XT-X last week and it flies! For gaming its way faster than my AMD64 3500 and 7800GT that I was using just over a month back. Get the x1900XT....nice card...nice price...nice graphics!

Yup, ive ordered a X1900xtx, im in no rush to buy a new system, so thats all ive ordered so far, if i can ill try and get the 580W psu from Hiper, depends on money, just deciding on mobo and things now...

what cpu have you got?

Sounds silly...but im someone who can wait for good things rather than go all out at once :P

Basically, i dont really want a 3800+, the first spec i made up i was set on a 4400+ with the x1800 512mb version, So im gona wait and hopefully get a 4400+ in the end, i could have ordered a full system with a x2 3800+, but would have left my money matters here a bit, scarce so to speak...so ive opted to just...wait :)

Call me mad, but hey, i just dont have 100's to throw around :S

The 3800+ will be a bottleneck, but the performance will still be staggering, im using a 512mb X1800 XT on a stock 3500+, and the performance is awesome. :)

Ya, thats why i didnt bother buying the X2 3800....if i get the 4400+ do you think that will still bottleneck it? or atleast not as much due to the extra cache n things?

You really need an amd 64 cpu running at around 2.8ghz to not bottleneck the top cards.

The slower cpu's just cannot feed the data to the gfx card fast enough.

My old x2 3800 would not even cut the mustard with a 7800 GT until I overclocked the x 2 3800
I got a big boost in FPS when I overclocked to 2.6ghz.
