I was wondering why the server I was playing on went down just, seems like Valve have just pushed a new map out over the last few minutes. I'm updating at the moment so I don't have any details but it's called CTF_Well which would seem to suggest it's a CTF version of CP_Well, I don't know how that will work but we'll see shortly.

Here are the patch notes:

Steam said:
Team Fortress 2

Added new capture the flag map CTF_Well

Added Spanish map descriptions

Added new option to auto-save a scoreboard screenshot at the end of a map to the Multiplayer->Advanced dialog

Added more particle optimizations for mid range and low end hardware

Updated CP_GravelPit to fix all known exploits and changed the scoring method to score per capture rather than per round

Updated "nextlevel" CVAR to trigger a changelevel at the end of the current round (not mini-round)

Fixed SourceTV demo recording problem

Fixed mp_stalemate_enable not preventing Sudden Death mode on some maps

Fixed a couple cases where player stats were not being recorded correctly

Fixed some log entries being truncated

Fixed crash caused by trying to import a custom player spray

Removed the "Reset Stats" button from the Player Stats screen

Sound intresting.

Hopefully they've changed Well, because I think its too big as it stands for CTF.

Downloading now so we'll see.

Edit Friend has said it has changed. You only start off at the 2nd spawn point. So it might be pretty good. Hopefully my download will speed up. :(

Team Fortress 2 is the greatest game ever.

Looking forward to playtesting this new version of Well. It was a bit rubbish as CP.

Just had a quick go. Don't like it so far, but I'm not a fan of Well or Granary. And I don't think TF2 really suits CTF anymore. Will play more tomorrow before I write it off completely though.

Interesting, gonna have to try this out. More CTF maps are needed, and I think 2fort was a poor introduction for it too.

This was meant to be released a few days ago. Valve sticking to their timeframes as usual!

Well sucks as a CP, hopefully its better as a CTF. Will give it a go, although im not convinced the long thin shape will work well, your very limited as to the route you take.

EDIT: Just played it, and its a bit poo. Its way to big for a CTF map. Was on a server with 20 ppl and hardly saw anybody. None of the higher levels get used, its just about sticking 2 sentries at the doors to your 2nd point which completely stops them getting through, and then just how many spys you have to fend off. Its rubbish. Makes me feel like Valve are making maps to hopefully stop us asking about where the new maps are!

This was my thought too, I don't think this is one of the "real" new maps Valve are making because this is esentially a modification of an existing map, hopefully they are hard at work on some new maps.

I have been playing some half decent fan maps recently, CP_LazyTown is a nice one although it can go on for ages, also CTF_HallOfDeath is a very basic map but really fun.

lazytown sucks for the reasons you already mentioned :/ not very well thought out.

However, there are some very good custom maps out there :)

Hated this map as CP, but loving it as CTF so far.

Had some brilliant spy moments last night.

I'm surprised you guys don't like Well CP - it's one of the best in scrims. Then again, in matches nobody uses engineers, which is the thing I hate most about Well on publics.

Well and Granary are too easy to rush, if you team dies the opponents can cap the last 2 points before you even respawn

Played the ctf well earlier a couple of times, i like it... although as people have said it might be a bit large... had a great fight defending our flag in their flag room... thing was at the bottom of the stairs up to the capture point for a good few minutes with me (soldier) and my medic buddy defending it alone against the hordes

Had some great fun on this map over the weekend. I thought it was much more fun than the CP version and I like the new stairway - the first time I saw it I was like - 'was that always there?'

I rather enjoyed it playing in large groups, there was a definate strategic element to the match - taking/defending at several points right up to the flags :)

i'm mostly looking forward to the "goldrush" or whatever it will be called :D
