New TF2 update possibly imminent

I can't decide with TF2 whether I'm still into it at the moment... I used to play it loads from the early days and really enjoyed it but something feels like it's changed, maybe just the huge influx of weapons and items as mentioned above

The original noble design choice Valve went with, making the classes easy to identify from a distance or at a glance, is sort of ruined when you originally would have:

"Oh here comes a Pyro/Heavy/Demo/whatever, they will be using one of 2 or 3 possible weapons so I should try to approach or deal with them like this..."

to now:

"Oh here comes a Pyro/Heavy/Demo/whatever, who knows what random gimmicky items they will be using so may as well just charge into the spamfest and hope that by trial and error I can start to learn which player-name is using which specific weapon"

I don't really mind the customisation cosmetic items so much... it's a bit of a fun and can be enjoyable, but it doesn't impact on the gameplay (other than it being such a focus of so many player's attention now rather than the actual game)

I have to agree. I used to love TF2, it was easily one of my favorite games (I have over 900 hours in game...) but then they went a bit too far with all of the weapon types.

As others have said, when they first brought out new variations of guns, it was a nice addition. It allowed for a slightly different strategy, but then came along user created content which opened the flood gates to the endless stream of random weapons.

Suitable thread for these :D

Good times

It's a shame they fixed the Demoknight turn rate bug :( charging at people in predictably straight lines is boring :( I miss being able to curve my way to them or being able to follow them around corners.

I could never get into TF2. It felt too much like The Incredibles for my liking.

I thoroughly enjoyed the old school TFC and always hoped that TF2 would be similar but have updated graphics looking a bit similar to CS. Just been trying to find some photos that somebody knocked up a few years ago, but can't get them anywhere.

I was quite looking forward to the more military style TF2 that was originally announced with the commander class etc so when this came out I was a bit disappointed. I got over it though :) Nice to see a game that's 6-7 years old and still going. That's pretty damn good for a FPS

Played team fortress since the quake mod, through tf1.5 / tfc and into tf2. Still love it and an absolute sucker for hats :) got my son into it as soon as he was old enough to play and he's a demon trader.

Never really enjoyed mvm but credit to them for continuing to develop the game. Looking forward to this.

Definitely, I went on a few months ago when I was at i51 just for the sake of it - was surprised to see people still playing. Sadly I think I started playing towards the end of its peak but I still had an excellent year or so playing it!

I'm intrigued. Went back to TF2 the other day after not playing for a few months and was surprised at how little has actually changed.

I usually play Engineer. I love pulling the unorthodox tricks - most engineers build in the same places, they surround themselves with a sentry, a dispenser and a teleporter and then tank. I tend to attack rather than defend. I hide a dispenser near the front lines, pop my sentry in silly/unusual places and try and get teleporter exits behind the enemy's front lines (even better if this lets me get the sentry near their spawn doors). I often use myself as bait as well. It's amazing how many Soldiers/Demomen/Pyros/Heavies take the "it's only an Engineer - this will be an easy kill!" attitude rather than the (sensible) "what the hell is an enemy Engineer doing around here, and where is his stuff?". Only thing I cannot abide is Spies. Sappers, I can deal with. The ones that annoy me are the suicide-Spies (you know, the ones that stab you within view of your Sentry, resulting in both of you dying) and revenge-Spies (the ones who switch to Spy and abandon the battle, solely so they can kill you. They don't care how long it takes. They don't care if their team loses. They just want you to die).

It's still a unique, very well honed FPS experience. Its graphics haven't aged, the benefits of cartoonish cell shading I suppose. Pretty much the only one I play regularly nowadays. I do a bit of MvM on the side as well.

Oh god I hate crafty engi's so much!! :p

Have you checked out mann vs machine, think that was the last huge update?

New taunts are gonna be great I've had fun high fiving but could do with rock paper scissors.

Teaser 2 for day 2 will be weapons/maps!

Awesome - new taunts!!! Just what the game needed (not)

I wish I could get excited about TF2 announcements like I used to when the first waves of class updates were coming out

Ok i did not expect new taunts. Really did not care about those. Will wait for the other days. Also the new update better not be released on Steam Summer Sale

The shield looks like it immediately outclasses the Screen and Targe!

Parachute could be very interesting. I guess it leaves you pretty exposed, though.

I can see the scattergun being excellent. Sneaky hit and run Scouts!

I need to see some in-depth stats for the Sniper and RL. Both could be pretty cool!

Bread cosmetics and taunts; meh. I could watch Valve SFM shorts all day, Expiration Date was just awesome. I'd love to see a regular series with that sort of style. The characters, writing and animation are just incredibly well done!
