New to BT, some questions.

An SNR margin and attenuation would be useful too.

Downstream 8,096 Kbps

Assuming that's stable, I'd have expected you'd be on the 7Mbps profile, or at least moving in that direction.

They have now got me removing the front plate of the master socket to plug directly into the test socket to see if the speed improves after 6 hours. They are saying this will confirm whether its a fault with the front of the master socket or the line to the house.

Trying the master socket's a sensible thing to try (given you're 32kbps off full rate), but unless the modem's disconnecting and resynching at a rate greater than or equal to 2272kbps (minimum for 2Mbps), but less than 2848kbps (minimum for the next profile step, 2.5Mbps), it's unlikely to do much to help. Looks more like a case of Sticky Profile Syndrome.

They should be able to see all the sync events, and you could monitor the sync rate but that depends on what options the HH has...

Thanks Tolien. I cant see a sync rate anywhere. I still cant get the Bt speed test site to load. No Idea why. Anyother sites that will give me that sync rate?

The only other data I can get from the hub is IP address.

Edit also what does it mean when people say stuck profile?

You quoted them earlier:

Downstream 8,096 Kbps

Upstream 448 Kbps

You have an IP profile, which fixes the throughput you get. It should change with sync rate (in both directions), but it appears yours is stuck (since you get nothing but 2Mbps). This explains it.
The BT Speedtest shows, and the BT Tech Support can look at, the value of the IP profile.

Thanks again Tolien, the master socket test didnt do a thing. Atleast its not my house wiring :) I will give them a ring when I get home from work. They gave me a number to ring if the test socket didnt improve things.

If it was a stuck profile would they not have noticed that on the tech call last night and fixed it?

Hi.

Another noob thats just gone onto bt homehub etc and is only getting 2mb

I ran the http://speedtester.bt.com/ and all I get is

you have downloaded a 1.7Mb file at a speed of 1921 kilo bits per second (Kbps), your service bandwidth will have been quoted to you in kilo bits per second.

I'm obviously missing something, where doI get the sync and profile details?

Cheers.

Right another day another call to india. Well they are pleasant enough so thats something, I phoned them to tell them the master socket test made no difference. They are now telling me they are phoning though to the 'technical' department to turn off interleaving and my connection should be at its max in 24 hours after stabilisation.

Have they just fed me a load of pony? Are they just unsticking my profile?

They said if its not ok in 24 hours to phone again.
