New To Building Desktops, What Do I Need?

Here is a review which compares the 5770 to the 5850 AND both cards in Xfire.

Personally, I would suggest going for a 5850 now and add a second one in the future when you need more power.

If you are mainly gaming, then going from Phenom II X4 to i5 will not give you any performance benefit. The same goes for all you other uses, except perhaps "modelling tools". What application are you using here, is it very CPU heavy and multi threaded?

As for monitors, I suggest having a look at this one, its a fantastic bit of kit.

what would you reccomend from all the 5850 series costing upto £230
theres 4 different ones but i dont know which would be best to get
as they all seem like the same card just with different names

okay thanks i am looking at about £850 without OS and without Screen, but i have a screen i wonna get thats for about £180, hoping to get it for about £150 and then need to get a OS - could i use the OS in My Laptop that has Vista and install that HD into the case and reinstall the OS but put it into the other HD :) would that work?

Yea, I'm pretty sure you can't do that with the Laptop OS drive.

First, most Windows installs I have done require a fresh install if moving a HDD to a new motherboard.

But on top of this, as it is OEM software it will likely not allow you to work on a motherboard from that particular company. Also, it is technically not legal as the OEM license is only for that laptop - you can't transfer the software license to a new machine.

If you are a student you can get some nice deals on Windows 7 if you google around.

So other then the OS and the sata dvd drive, would there be anything i would need
seen some videos on Youtube with the case and some seem to have what i think is a CPU cooler, it goes into a space on the Motherboard area or something, would this be needed? or should the heat be okay?

where would that need installing onto?
looking at Videos - its quite easy to see where i would install the 120mm and 140mm fans
but i cant seem to find where this would connect to - directly on to the CPU or Motherboard?
with the fact that i will have using 4 fans will an internal fan be needed, such as the one above?

Right okay thanks, do you think it would be required?
with the number of fans i will already have and the fact
that i will not be overclocking at all

as the CPU / GPU / Motherboard area will have 3 fans around it as it is (1 on top, 1 on the back and 1 on the side) do you think that it will need more cooling?

you'll most likely need it as a decent heatsink will dissipate a lot of heat meaning your entire system will run a lot cooler

your extra fans it wont make a huge amount of difference to the cpu due to lack of efficiency from the stock cooler so it'd be better in the long run to get a decent cooler

Okay thanks, is it really big? i have read that some people couldnt add fans on the side becuase of there cooler - i cant remember what it was called but it did sound like a mean Cooler it was annihilation or something and it was HUGE!

yeah i've had to sacrifice one fan on the side of my case but it was worth it as that fan blows onto the cpu cooler, whereas cpu coolers generally blow the air towards the exhaust fan which is far more useful

well you could just get a different cpu cooler with a detachable fan (Coolermaster Hyper 212 Plus would be a good one) and just replace it with an led fan
