New to consoles! 360 or PS3

What is clear exactly? That proves nothing! Comparing one game that represents the best PS3 has to offer graphically with a game that clearly doesn't show off what the 360 can is an utterly pointless exercise. Surely you can see that?!

That Blu-Ray is underestimated, lots of people laugh it off but I haven't seen anything on 360 that looks as good as Ratchet, Uncharted or Killzone 2.

They are both first party games, that's the comparison. These are the games that should look the best on each console as they have probably had dev kits the longest.

May I ask why you confuse the purpose of blu-ray with the purpose of the graphics card? What makes you think more storage = better graphics? That's a schoolboy error you're making. Crysis is on 1 DVD disc, I don't see any PS3 games looking anywhere near as good as that.

Well surely more storage means you can have higher res textures, and more off them? If the console can handle them off course.

Then we go back to the 256mb/256mb memory in the console. I know. Would you like to beat this dead horse with me?

Oh, look. It's been beaten several times already from what we've seen. Yawn.

You've still got to hold those textures in memory and the 360 has more available which is why almost all multiplatform games look better. You can have more textures on the PS3 I'll grant you.

Lol. One day we'll have 'Ratchet & Clank, Killzone 2 look great" without having to add "and better than anything better than the 360 can do, I win".

More storage can still mean better graphics though and more variety, so beat and yawn all you like, I am sure you know it from adding in hi-res stuff to PC games, but beat that horse if you wish :)

I don't disagree. But when people go on about the PS3 not failing at all, it's stupid. My second one is faulty, but not so much I think I should send it back. Another guy reported a PS3 failure on here yesterday too.

All hardware fails, the point is Xbox 360 failure rate has been estimated at around 1 in 3, whilst PS3 failure rate is well below acceptable levels.

Microsoft have even admitted as such that all Xbox console built in first few years are flawed.

And are fixing them at massive costs to themselves, so what's the problem?

Actually GG said theirselves that they're finding Blu-Ray extremely useful. I didn't mean necessarily for graphics but from what I've seen first party games on the PS3 look better than the 360 ones.

Even so, it's only a difference of PS2 to Xbox from my eyes.

And are fixing them at massive costs to themselves, so what's the problem?

The problem is they released faulty hardware and it's a pain to keep having to go back to retailers when it breaks down. Their DRM system is also broke, so when my 360 goes back to repairs I pratically lose half of my arcade games and have to phone them up again (which can take months).

Edit:

I hate these threads, they should be closed as soon as they are posted. I look through them trying not to post and then someone says something stupid so I start posting and then end up getting into a debate about something that isn't that important.

Which ones on the x360 are groundbreaking? Is this the same thing as a AAA title??

Bioshock took the ratings by storm. Mass Effect will also be one of the best RPG's this generation. Also Halo3 and online multiplayer, nuff said really.

If anyone recommends a PS3 then they must be a fanboy. Since this is the gaming forum and very, very few people deny the 360's superior games catalogue. There is also plenty coming out for the 360 next year.

I mentioned this in the other thread. PC's can handle information such as high-resolution textures in difference ways than consoles. For a start it has a HDD and loads of memory, as well as graphics cards all of which work differently to a console.

Being able to hold high resolution textures and use high resolution textures are two different things. KNiVES is absolutely spot on with what he said above.

As for Ratchet & Clank, Uncharted and Killzone 2 looking better than anything the Xbox360 can offer... Well, I'll just have to disagree with you politely there.

I never denied that. However, my point is the way people go on about the PS3 not failing when it does. Saying one fails and one doesn't isn't a viable argument, saying one fails more than the other is.

Woah woah woah. What?!
I'd recommend a PS3 to anyone. Excellent console.

And I'm of the opinion everyone should rush out to buy a PS3 anyway because it's hands down the best blu-ray player, nay, high definition player out there - period. Performance per buck, you're getting a helluva lot. And a free games playing utility to boot. Almost every other high definition player is a ripoff compared to the PS3. It is a movie buff's wet dream to see movies like 300 or Akira way earlier than their DVD and HD-DVD incarnations, and with the vast majority of the blu-ray library being region-free too.

But please, just don't get started on the games and hardware side of things.

now you are mistaken, As you are comparing PC to Console, It's known very well that PC games install, So are fully compressed on disk. :)

As for the 256/256 memory.

You are dead on. Sony themselves say so.

not only that, The Sony OS takes up more Memory than the 360 equivalent.

That said though, To be honest. Its down to developers to implement hardware in the best way it can, So 256/256 memory may look worse on paper, If a developer makes the most of it, It wont show.

Dirt and Oblivion being instances where the PS3 versions are better. Shows its possible.

MGS4 is amazing looking, And with 256mb as its maximum. It's really nice.

Hardware does not account for everything.

And just so people know, The 512mb unified RAM isnt the main reason the 360 has the nicer graphics. The 360 also has 10MB embedded dram in the GPU.

May not seem like LOADS, but, it basically gives the 360 a free AA overhead.

May seem like a wierd reply from me, But I don't like looking for the bad sides of consoles, I'd rather look at the plus sides of both consoles.

As so many people say, I'm in it for the games, I hate a lazy developer, much more than I hate a hardware limitation. :p

I never said the console could, I said more disk space can mean using higher res textures and a bigger variety of textures, which is pretty obvious really. PC's do not work all that different to consoles these days, you could say the 360 is more or less a PC in small box :) PS3 has HDD too right by the way? So did Xbox, you make it sound like HDD is a thing of fantasy on console.
