New to ssd? not sure what to get?

Basically the controller is the important bit not the drive manufacturer. The Sandforce controller is probably the most popular right now (SF-1200) and the OCZ Vertex 2E are often recommended. Defo faster than the Intel

perhaps so but again it comes down to price, those ocz drives cost more than the intel cheapest i found was £80 a drive. Intel x25 v is £60

I know. Intel, OCZ and Crucial stand out in the reviews as the best ssd drives at the moment. But Intels peformance generally blows the competition away in all the reviews and benchmarks that I have seen

Eh? The Elmcrest drives have a reasonable read speed but moderate write speeds. The new Vertex drives are still faster.

He doesn't know what he's talking about. He's thinking of buying Intel Value drives but compares Intel Extreme drives (that cost upwards of £500) to other 2nd generation SSDs.

Not worth arguing with tbh. Not even sure if troll, asking for advice when you clearly made a decision (however stupid it would appear to be)...

i was just pointing out that intel is usually on top for performance in all the current ranges of ssd drives. as for me I have a £150 budget and want a fast ssd with about 80gb space. So getting 2 intel 40g value drives and running them in raid 0 is a good choice

im happy with my choice. it gives me good enough performance for what i need windows 7 and to run biowares swtor when it launches. the raid0 benchmarks are good and i consider it the best performance for value. You could pay the extra for a slightly better ssd choice but id rather put that towards a new gpu

You could pay less for a better SSD but since you're a stubborn...

Don't make pointless threads where you ask for advice and throw everyone's advice away since you made your decision from day 1.

Good day, Sir.

maybe you didnt read this properly, this is not a thread where i asked for advice and im not being stubborn if you know a cheaper ssd thats better id be more than happy to buy it

Oh rly?

New to ssd? not sure what to get?

This is not asking for advice?

Read through the thread properly and you might find that people already posted advice a number of times.

No i didnt ask for advice, that was me giving advice and those ssds were not cheaper alternatives, some did have better benchmarks but pound for pound I still think my choice gives the best performance for value

If you actually pay attention to his opening post, he isn't asking for advice. It's constructed in a way that's offering advice to SSD newbies. Whether it's advice most of the rest of the board would give is a different matter.

True that, got lost in the discussion. Shame on me.

My point stands though, Intel X25-V are very poor value.

Ok well if the intel x25 v 40gb is poor value i will ask for advice. What is the top 3 performing ssd drives for each group 0-£100, 100-£150, 150-£200?

Best performing (benchmarks) would be crucial/sandforce (ocz-corsair)

The Best all round I would say the Intels. I've had most of them except the crucial. They all need a little TLC compared to mechanical drives but You will have less/no issues with Intel...not tried the value model but I'm sure It would not disappoint ;)

Intel Extreme? Do you know how much they cost?

Have a look at the comparison between the Value ones you wanted and Extreme:

£500+ for the 64GB version.

Beat me to it :(

Heres a Real comparision. The Intel 40GB Value drive vs the Crucial C300 SSD 64GB which is only £20 ish more and has 33% more size.

The Crucial beats the Intel Value in everytest as far as i can see.
