New TV time - 4k worth it?

Hoping to trade-in the damaged UE32H5500 to get the £250 cashback - Samsung rep in-store at JL reckoned this would be fine, so.......

I was told when I bought mine that Samsung won't even check to see if the TV exists let alone works. You just fill the model details in and they'll send you your money.

That's what I am keeping fingers crossed for. According to the promotion leaflet/website, seems one is supposed to take trade-in TV at time of purchase, but I called up JL and they said bring it in asap, and they will do their paperwork accordingly - typically great service :)
Of course, cannot actually make the claim with Samsung until 30days after purchase anyway, but will be dropping off the fubar TV tomorrow and - given experience of late - may well take up JL's offer of upgrading their 5yr warranty to include AcDam for another £70 (seems pretty reasonable, and might be well worth it with cats, wiimotes et al!)

just bought a 4k samsung 6500 curved also got the soundbar / subwoofer am using it for sky + pc gaming, going to have to upgrade gpu to a 980ti as my 780 is kinda struggling now, but overall loving the tv still tweeking it to my likeing

I would seriously struggle to choose oled 1080p vs 4k
Especially with my panny plasma

Lots of waiting still to do for oled to mature. I'm 90pc sure my next TV will be oled

You can go and look at OLEDs in shops and make up your own mind on that one!

Already have saw the price tag and and strolled along ;)

Why are there no smaller OLED sets ?

Not everyone wants a TV that takes over a room you know.

I imagine because the cost of the TV would be disproportionate to its size and hence they probably wouldn't sell well. Much easier to cater for the top end of the market initially.

Once the technology matures and becomes cheaper I imagine it will filter down.

I think OLEDS do look amazing and may replace the current tech if the price comes down but it is a great shame if Samsung left the oled race they are a major player and would help drive cost down too. Maybe sony and samsung may come around?

Would have loved a 32inch or 40inch oled !

For now I don't see it happening anytime soon so 4K and HDR seem the way forward.

Glad to hear that JL extra damage protection works!

Just seen Phillips 40" 4K TV for £279 from a local public wholesaler. Wonder how good that one is.

public wholesaler? any hint at the name of it lol

that is an excellent price and love philips brand think they do great stuff.

4K at the moment si still a bit unformulated for me, what with HDMI 2.0 to get 50/60Hz on 4k etc.

Have a look at the TVs supported by the BT 4K channel: I assume that's a reasonable example of 'industry standard' as much as we have it at the moment.

I'm waiting until I can get 4K OLED at 55-65 inches, but flat. Not long now!

No idea what HDR is but its getting thrown around a lot in this thread as a game changer for 4K so gonna have to go do some googling me thinks!

Ps holding out now for 46-50" 4K OLED with HDMI 2.0 and display port. Not holding my breath :D

I was all set on waiting for an 65" 4k OLED to replace my now 4 year old 52" panny plamsa. But a visit to the high Street and seeing the new samsung 4K SUHD JS9500 had me rethinking things. Was absolutely stunning. If they do a non curved one I'll be getting one for sure.

Why not wait a couple of weeks until the new LG flat OLED is available? Then hopefully you can check them out side by side.
