So, my 2013 Sony HD 55 inch is still going strong, top spec, £2500 at the time, great picture, great sound.
Been out of the market so long, are current spec ones around the £1500 mark miles better?
Got the itch but quite attached to it, so only want to pull the pin out if there is a BIG improvement.
Any ones to look at? Cheers and have a good one ;-)

Go into any store and look at some TVs yourself?

If you aren't in a position to do that, buy any OLED 4K TV and be blown away. Actually I think you would be stunned by any 4K TV around the the £1500 mark compared to your old TV.

If your going OLED, probably.

I might be in the minority here, but my old Panasonic Plasma was far superior to the new Sammy thing I have now.

Bad move, but the panny was failing and pretty innefcicent power wise.

I'll have butchers at this one, fancy sticking with Sony, anyone got one?

I went from a 2016 lcd to a gx lg oled and was amazed. Like truly impressed. The biggest wow was high quality HDR.

If you buy one, watch the scene in oblivion where cruise falls into the old library - dark room, bright lasers - a great demo.

That's whats buggin me ... blurays on the old sony still look pin sharp ... stream stuff not so much. Thanks for advice tho ... looking forward to a demo.

Blue rays will look a bit better - but you will be able to experience 4k HDR content.

Try and get a demo in a dim room - not a currys special with ‘dynamic’ maide and 1500watts of lighting.

Go to a richer sounds or equivalent and have at a few screens. We upgraded from a top spec 2010 bravia to an LG cx55 and the difference was massive. Some of the BBC nature documentaries in 4k are incredibly stunning.

Funnily enough there is a Richer Sounds at the end of my road ... will pop in tomorrow. Difficult comparing old a new thats the prob?

Sorry, late reply. What I would do is watch a movie you like and know well. Maybe one you have on Bluray. And then bring the movie with you to Richersounds and use that to help you compare. It's not the same as comparing them side by side but it's something.

When you are in Richersounds, ask them to play some 4K HDR movies. Pacific Rim, The Avengers, Planet Earth II, 1917, Dunkirk are all good examples. If they don't have any of those movies, I am sure they will have something.

Good luck :) let us know how you get on.

Plasma? Only OLED will be better. My VT55 is still going strong; granted I hardly use it. But really, what content do you watch? If you only watch HD videos then 4k will be wasted. And there are no 4k broadcast channels. Streaming's another matter, of course.

Yeh, I really liked my old sammy plasma, but my new QD OLED just blew it away in terms of PQ.

Just had a look at one of these in Curry's. They look brilliant. It's either this or an LG C2. I won't be gaming on it so no real need for the LG.
I'm leaning toward this - just waiting until January sales in hope they knock these down.
Not interested in the Samsungs.

@turbot1984 have you decided which you're going for?
