so looks like the 1600AF is £92 and the 2600 is £114 is there any point in getting the 2600?
Cool. Save myself a little cash then. Although I have found the 2600 for 105No, they are the same CPU.
I’ve managed to get my 1600AF to 4ghz on my MSI Mortar Max, however it is running pretty hot. The auto core voltage is over 1.4v at this speed (it looks like it scales from about 1.2v at 3.2ghz). This seems like quite a jump in stock voltage which is causing the high temps I’m seeing. Should I be playing with the core voltage to find the minimum stable voltage at this clock speed?
Ive just made a second system using the Ryzen 2600. Got most of the parts new. I had a spare SSD and I got the 2600 second hand. I have put it together today and the whole thing has cost me a mere £220. R5 2600, Gigabyte a230 mobo, 8gb patriot ram, GT 710 graphics, matx slimline case with 300w PSU. Its amazing value for the performance. Cant really describe in words how impressed i am with such a low outlay. Well Done AMD. I am Intel at heart but its rocking for sure.
Literally just done similar for myself and a relative.
Ordered a 1600AF, 16GB of Patriot Viper 3200, and an Asrock B450M Pro 4 for myself, the parts should all be here next week fingers crossed.
Got the same but with 16GB of budget DDR4 for the relative.
I figure it's a good placeholder CPU, solid performance immediately for cheap and room to upgrade to an octa' 4000 chip at the end of the year.
Sounds like a nice system. I am sure they will put it to good use.
I have the job once every so often of doing the family upgrades too. For sure ill be recommending these beauty's. The last AMD generation I used were the Athlon x2 and the original x4 Phenom. But still lost out a fair bit to Intel. These are very very fast indeed.Cant really notice much difference from my 8600K.
I know the feeling, I've been running Intel exclusively since the Core 2 days so it'll be great to play around with a red team system for a change.
I'm putting together another build for a friend featuring a 2700 and similar components. Everyone is going a bit stir crazy with the lock down and looking for new toys I think.
Haha, Yep that's me keeping my brain busy. Nice to have a good mess around and get a feel for the system. Never know when my main upgrade is due i Could be persuaded to cross over.
There's speculation that the 4000 chips will have a 10-15% IPC gain, combined with superior multi-threading and the pricing we're seeing a nice 4700X or 4900X looks to be a star buy imo.
I don't think Intel has anything that can really answer that, raw clock-speed is only getting them so far and they're a year or two away from launching new architecture afaik.
At these price points Intel have real issues. But I think its the same as AMD did themselves. They knew that current gen would struggle as such, so they concentrated on future technology and making Ryzen. I think Intel are doing the same now. Give it a year or two they will come back with a vast improvement. Its great for us though. Happy with as many great options as possible.
At 4ghz with the current Wraith Stealth cooler I was topping 90c in stress tests which is a bit high for my liking! I decided to see how far I could get on 1.2v, and it's stable at 3.75ghz and the temps are pretty low. Looking to get a Wraith Prism, which I'm hoping will help me push for a higher clock with the voltage up to 1.3v whilst keeping the CPU a bit cooler.Absolutely. What cooler are you using? You should be able to set the voltage between 1.25v and 1.3v manually. Maybe even lower..

Are there any other coolers I should be looking at?
Thanks.
The whole upgrade I did was around £400, so ideally I'd like to spend as little as possible on a new cooler - hence the Prism thought as they can be had for around £20.Why not look into an AIO liquid cooler if your budget allows?
I noticed last night that whilst the CPU sits at 3.7ghz now, it's boosting to 4.2ghz on all cores according to HWMonitor during intense gaming sessions. Is that correct? I assumed that turbo was disabled once I'd overclocked the CPU via the multiplier. At 4ghz with the current Wraith Stealth cooler I was topping 90c in stress tests which is a bit high for my liking!
