Hi folks, a new version of CDex has become available, here:

http://sourceforge.net/projects/cdexos/

I have a problem however - my rips to MP3 are *really* slow - about 1.5 times play speed. The old version of CDex used to get up to about 25 times

Has anyone managed to fix this with the new version?

Thanks for any advice

Pup

they're probably just using a more accurate ripping mechanism at a guess..

EAC is better than cdex anyway

here i've made an installer for it..

http://bleddyn.co.uk/files/EACsetup.exe

you MUST have C: as your Program Files directory for this to work properly (my one)

F10
Ok
Burst Mode
Ok

(only need to do that first time you use it)

now, put in your audio cd, wait for it to load it, press.. ALT + G this'll fill in the cddb details, then select the songs you want and click the mp3 icon

they'll go to..

C:\Artist\(Year) AlbumName\Artist - 00 - Songname.mp3

they're 32-320kb vbr high quality mp3 using Lame

:D

thanks Bledd - I've been using VLC but as there was a new version of CDex for the first time in a long time, I thought I'd give it a spin ;) VLC with the external LAME encoder is definitely top of the heap - recommended to anyone who wants to rip the best quality MP3s

bledd, you know you can set EAC to automatically download the cddb info once a disc is inserted?

EAC >> EAC options >> general >> 'on unknown cd....' ;)

CDDB is fine unless you're an early adopter like me :D It turns out I am the first person (in the world?) to rip Scritti Politti's new album 'White Bread, Black Beer' to MP3. There was no entry on CDDB! (but there is now, and yes I checked my spelling carefully :p )
