New Vista Beta 5728

will have to get this is it's still possible on my days off, so far i have been utterly unable to install RC1 without it hanging when it reaches the first reboot, little bar scrolls across after reboots then just hangs.... every...single....time!

tried 3 hdd's.

are they sata? if so you'll need drivers for them

boot from the dvd and install it that way, not from an existing xp install

Just come across another issue, had me confused for a little while

Network was dropping out randomly, could be after 30 seconds could be after 15 mins, cable was fine tested that with a laptop, still using built in vista drivers for the nforce nic, power saving.. nope

figured out what it was though, itunes7 for some reason doesnt keep the ipod connected so its continually in a loop of reconnecting it, since the firewire connection is ip based vista was resetting all the interfaces each time it did so, easily solved by disabling the ipod firewire device (lets the ipod charge by FW and sync by USB if you have the dual cable)

well it was driving me insane, beginning to think i should switch back to RC1

nope - using IE6 while sitting here at work. Proxy server might be causing a few probs though! Cheers.

there isn't one on the os betas (afaik..)

just noticed in vista the disk management tool can now shrink and extent partitions :) xp has NEEDED this for ages!

Just done a fresh install on a 100Gb Partition on my SATA2 Samsung Spinpoint.

Wow, what a difference from Beta 2.
Its so much smother and quicker. Ive installed the 32bit version this time, hoping that the driver support will be a little better.

My Sound card installation went without a hitch, Sound works perfectly with the drivers from creatives site.
ATi drivers seem also fine, however when I leave Meda center, I get random Corruption on the desktop for 5 seconds. Other than that no problems. :)

One thing that is bugging me is the font anti-aliasing. What on earth's going on there? I thought Vista was supposed to implement some new technology that made fonts clear, smooth and easy-to-read.

When you see the difference between OS X and Vista there is no comparison. Vista still looks pants. It seems to only use the ClearType on specific fonts whereas OS X does it on every bit of text on the screen.

Have Microsoft done half-a-job here or what?

it think it dies in june or somethin like that, plenty of time though

for those still running XP/2000 the diskpart tool from MS will let you expand a partition, done it many times on our windows 2000 servers at work when upgrading the arrays, best run from a boot cd though

Probably a silly question - but when prompted for serial number what should I key? Or do I simply hit next and select the version of Vista I'd like to use?

Apologies in advance for my noobness :o

PS - I noticed a few of you mentioning mounting software - MS have a utility which does just that (for XP). I needed it when using Virtual PC 2004 to mount the ISO.

It should be your beta 2 cd key you used previously...

You say the ATi drivers? I have an X1900XT so would adding the "Catalyst for Windows Vista RC1 Beta driver - Display Driver and Catalyst Control Center (75MB) " be ok for me to do?

That way I can set all the AA etc up? Someone mentioned before in a thread not to bother installing them for RC1? confused now :(

WOW!

I've just installed it on my Acer 1502lmi laptop, A64 3.2, 512mb, ATi 64mb and it runs so smooth a lot better then when I had XP home installed.

All I had to do was enter my Router password and straight away I was connected to the net.

It also installed soundcard drivers and my ATI drivers.

I'm really impressed with it.
