New Windows Live Essentials 2011

5 things i dont like about this version;

1 - ads in messenger - they expand when you hover over them with the mouse

2 - Live mail no longer pins itself to start menu - when you set as something else it moans about not being the default mail program (In vista anyway!)

3 - no native x64 versions - you'd think with MS trying to push x64, theyd at least make their flagship apps available in both versions. Makes it feel unfinished

4 - Runs 2 live ID services - (at least they have included x64 versions)

5 - Taken away the ability to change my name

The apps themselves feel a lot more responsive and windos7ish, and live mail has a lot more going for it. Overall I like the new version - a move forwards, but they need to shorten my list to really impress me!

I agree with you on the ads and name changing points:) Would a 64bit version of a mail or messenger client be worth it? Not sure performance wise but better security maybe? Not sure, maybe someone with better knowledge than me will know LOL

installed messenger and not too impressed about how half of the options and features i use have disappeared. They're probably still there, but i cant find them:

1: the email button (both in messenger box and in the taskbar icon menu). WHERE'D IT GO?!?!
2: the popups to say people are online/you've got new mail. WHERE'D THEY GO?!?
3: Cant seem to change my display name without changing the entire account name.
4: Even though i always set to sort contacts by online/offline status, i now have a third "appearing offline to option" which i cant get rid of...

bah.

edit:

the ads have always expanded when moused over for me. Apatch solved that one ;)

edit edit: the email button has mysteriously reappeared, but still not in the taskbar icon :(

Installed and my friends are saying that my display name is showing as: 卐 JOE 卐 which is what my friends old screen name used to be O_O

Go to Edit My Name like Khaaan! showed earlier in the thread and change it to my full name. It's showing correctly for me, but not for anyone else :O

When signing in on the old MSN, my name changes back to what it should be. How odd.

How the 'el do you uninstall this???? Tried it and didnt think much of it, but then decided to reinstall it again but was told its already installed and wont continue

Its horrific cant believe we will be forced to use this utter rubbish. Bloated nonsense.

Yep.

Why they don't make it like the mac version is beyond me. What's the fascination with ramming in as much crap as possible?

The mac version is just perfect. A sleek and simple messenger.
