Hello chaps,

I'm in need of a new media box, my current one is a mygica 510b with Linux XBMC and is a bit out of date and isn't terribly quick.

My main use is to catalogue and stream my media library from my pc.

What's the current recommendation for a straight out of the box solution? Budget maybe £100.

I don't want to build one myself or have to faff around too much.

This one gets some good reviews -

MINIX Neo X8-H Plus Android 4.4 Smart TV Box Quad Core Amlogic S812-H Dolby XBMC H.265 HEVC 4K2K 2GB/16GB Gigabit Ethernet 2.4/5.8GHz WiFi Bluetooth4.0 (UK Plug) + Free Plater C120 Wireless Air Mouse https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B015F2S6RG/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awd_2fqGwbD7K6KES

Thanks all.

Currently looking into something similar. I appreciate you wanted something that works straight out the box but what advantage would these boxes offer over a new 4k fire TV with kodi sideloaded?

I am new to all this kodi malarky but today I bought a Nexus Player for £50. Got it home and set it up but it took a while to update as out of the box it was running android 5.0. It updated to 5.1.1 first then a few smaller updates and then v6.0.1 marshmallow.
I then installed kodi from the play store and put a few more apps on it and it really is a nice, fast smart tv box. I just need to side load some apps to get it the way I want.

I also used my old 500gb hard drive from my PS4 in a caddy but thought the nexus may not supply enough power through USB to power it but it did!

A bit more expensive but without question the Nvidia Shield TV is currently the best box.

+1 even if you don't us the gaming features the Shield TV has the grunt to handle kodi like a boss. I've had 3 other android boxes for use with kodi and they're all slow as balls. The shield on the other hand is smooth and snappy.

The T8-V3 is snappy. Why pay £150 for a box that isn't even an Android box more of a gaming rig. The apps are very limited on the shield also. If you paid exc £60 you could get a windows based NUC that would perform a lot quicker for KODI and run a lot more software

I just use a mini pc. You can pick up a bay trail or cherry trail £50-100, then put on a wireless air mouse and away you go.

Far more versatile than a pure android box.

I use Amazon Fire 4K, it handles Kodi fine, although some skins are slower than others but that's down to the skin, it's a million times faster than ATV2 though running XBMC.

£65, works with my harmony remote, tiny footprint, no complaints.

Good point, I'd do this over any of these Kodi Boxes personally.

I've got a small media pc in my lounge and a fire stick upstairs. The fire stick is great and I can only imagine the tv box to be even better.
