Anyone been in the The View, the revolving restaurant?

I'm looking for somewhere spectular to eat for Valentines dinner. Any tips would be great.

Per Se supposed to be very good, as are Daneil and Le bernadin

we went to Jean-Georges which is Michelin 3* though no idea how, it really wasn't that good

One thing I'd recommend while there is get to the Harlem end of Central Park (W 110th ST) and walk back through the park towards midtown zig zagging as you go so you get to as much of it as possible.

It will consume a full day, cost next to nothing and it was the best day I had during the 7 days I was there. Just dont be there at night..!!

I seem to remember we ate at the 21club restaurant as well while we were there. Had to book in advance though but the food was great.

plenty of good advice from others, one thing I will say is I went in Feb 2002 and it was Freezing ! really freezing so make sure you take the right sort of coat etc.

It was lovelty blue skies and dry but as I said proper chilly with the wind down the long avenues etc.

enjoy your trip ;)

I paid around $27 dollars for a 7 day subway pass, which was completely unlimited, and also covered free bus travel. YOU CANNOT GO WRONG FOR THAT. BUY IT.

Central park is very... Er.. Central. Lovely area as well!

We allowed £60 a day each, but that wasn't necessarily used every day, it depended on what you want to do. For example, you could get the taxi to Ellis Island to see the statue of liberty up close, or you could get the free Staten Island Ferry.

I am thinking of going in feb but unsure if i need a visa or not. Can you guys confirm if i need one or not.

as long as you meet the visa waiver criteria ( UK passport, never been arrested etc ) you do not need a visa, just fill in the online ESTA and API stuff and then a green visa waiver form when you travel

Biggest tip I can give you for a holiday in New York (which is awesome) is walk and much as you can. Manhattan is big but not massive so walking is definitly an option and you see so much more than just hoping on and off the subway. Take some good walking boots and your cooking.

...oh and make sure you see New York from the Empire States by day and by night. We went really early and there were no queues.

Statue of Liberty is a bit naff and expensive, you would be better off taking a ride on the Staten Island Ferry which is free and goes past pretty close to Liberty and Ellis Island.

I just got back and don't really have any other advice to offer from what has been mentioned but I will say that it is BLOODY FREEZING :D

Don't bother with the Statue of Liberty take the free ferry, there are plenty of chances to see it up close from the deck. Definitely do the Empire State building, although we went at night to avoid the queues. Didn't use Tube, we got one of those tacky tourist bus tours but you can catch them every 15 minutes and the passes lasted 2 days I think. We were only there for 2 nights after spending several days in Washington DC which I can't recommend enough to anyone. If you're jetting out to the States add on a few days and get the Amtrack there it's a beautiful city.

Edit - This is about the best view you will get of the Stat of Liberty from the free ferry:

Do both :) Its hardly bank breaking, and at least you can say you've done both? :)

Top of the rock at night - get a nice lit up view of empire state.
Empire state in the day - can see for miles and miles. I didn't have to cue for either! (How normal that is I dont know!)

I stayed in the parker meridian took £200 and came back with change :)

I also recommend the 7day metro pass. We used that for most of our transport and then got a taxi occasionally.

I suggest going up the empire estate building, but go at night! its really amazing at night and there were no line ups at all.

Another area i would definitely visit is Soho. Really interesting and some great places to eat, namely Ray's Pizza in little Italy and Cafe Habana. The corn there is amazing! Also both places are cheap and the foods great.

Oh I forgot in my previous post. There a Dinner across the road from the main enterance to Grande Central station, I forget its name but the eggs benedict in there for breakfast where awesome and bloody cheap too.

It's kinda built under a road bridge.

...oh and if your going to do Catz Dinner (Harry Met Sally/ monster pestrami sarnies) allow plenty of time 'cos when I went it was chaos.
