any news or previews on the cube verison of this yet?

just invested in a 360 so going to waiut a bit for a wii...but want to play Zelda now! so I will get the cube version but cant seem to find any previews on it or info on how it plays or looks using a standard controller etc.

It's being released after the Wii version, so you'll probably see something after the 8th. It wouldn't surprise me if Nintendo were holding back on reviewer copies for now, as they'll be trying to pimp out the Wii version before it launches.

It's exactly the same game as the wii version but without the Wii controls if that makes sense.

The game was ported from cube to Wii and all nintendo added was the Wii control system but they have mentioned the possibility of new dungeons being available for purchase online.

apparently the Wii version is a mirrored version of the Cube version.

Link normally holds a sword in his left hand,

But you hold the remote in your right hand

So they flipped the game so Link would be right handed

Yep, this is true. Also, the Wii version is in 16:9 and 480p... slightly smoother :)

and the official release date of the Gamecube version is Dec 15th - I doubt it will slip at this point. As noted, the only differences are control, widescreen support, 480p support (PAL cube games don't support 480p) & the fact that the entire game is mirrored.

That's more than enough to justify the cost of a Wii. Go on, you know you can stretch a little ;)

If you have an HD set Zelda will look pants at 480i and have horrible borders down each side, either that or a stretched image that looks even worse. For most other games i'd wait, but Zelda only comes around every 3-5 years and this one looks like a cracker.

What?? 480i or p has nothing to do with that

Found a good preview on 1up here. It confirms the GC version is identical except for a left-handed link (and flipped game world), lack of widescreen support and the obvious controller differences.

This will be my first Zelda game (I never had a nintendo before I got my GC for £30 two years ago) so I'm really looking forward to this. I remember having a quick go on Wind Waker but I hated the cell shading style so never really gave it a chance.

I'm a Zelda virgin too... after reading the reviews, it seems to be the launch game of choice, but am I going to be missing something by not knowing the history of the series?

Not really, but by playing ocarina/link to the past etc you'll recognise some of the towns/areas.

Not really. Supposedly there's a crazy big complicated thread that connects all of them, but you don't really need to bother with anything more than the fairly generic "rescue the princess by collecting lots of stuff" story that provides the impetus for the game.

:(

WindWaker is ace, but so few people give it time. It improved upon Ocarina's battle system nicely, and has a beautiful art style to it.

I thought Wind Waker was amazing too, the graphics suited Zelda so well.

Ah, thanks for the info, guys. Thinking about it, maybe I could source Wind Waker and Ocarina on GC, and really get into the whole Zelda thing.

The former should be easy to get. The latter isnt a GC game, so unless you can get the bonus disk for Wind Waker, your not gonna be playing it without a N64 im afriad.

Or the legend of Zelda: Collectors edition. A special disk that game free with MK:DD that has four different Zelda games on, including OOT and MM.

Agree completely, Wind Waker was my favourite Zelda game of all. It had the best ATMOSPHERE of adventure out of the whole series. The odd niggle (ship combat was crap & a couple of dungeons seemed to have been cut) did little to detract from the experience for me.
I was gutted that the fact the Americans didn't seem to be open-minded enough meant we didn't get a true cube sequal (I had in mind a game set in a gigantic forest with lots of purple & blue tones).
As a result, I wasn't really arsed about the new Zelda 'till a couple of months ago but now I have the Cube version ready for xmas. I'd love a Wii but finances being limited, I'll get my next-gen Nintendo fill on the 'cube for now.
If you're new to Zelda, just play the new one first. Then get Windwaker for GC. Then pick up the Zelda : Collector's edition disc off an auction site (they don't seem too pricey yet) for both the N64 games.

I know what you're saying but without VGA support (maybe coming for the Wii) I can't take advantage of the 480p or widescreen. Besides it's not a choice between 'cube Zelda or wii Zelda, it's a choice between cube Zelda or nowt.
