Newbie memory question

I am building my first higher spec pc. I have a Gigabyte ma790XT mobo and some G.Skill memory DDR3 1600 with the following settings CL7-7-7-24.

Firstly is there anywhere an explanation of all these numbers. I read the faq but the link which probably explained them was broken

Secondly if I leave the mobo memory setting to auto will this default to a slower set of numbers.

What setting would most likely need to be adjusted assuming no overclocking

If you want to know what the settings are set to for your ram, download Cpu-z and you will find out under the "Memory tab"

At 1600Mhz CL7 i see there being no performance increase whatsoever in overclocking tbh. Not worth the hassle.
