Hi. I have been running my newly built PC for a few days now and i am a bit concerned with the high CPU temps i'm getting with my H80i

Firstly I was getting around 35 degrees at idle and over 80 degrees at full load.
I took the cooler back of and discovered that only half the heat sink was touching the CPU.

So I cleaned it up and re applied some MX2 compound and tested again, I was then getting around 25 degrees idle and 58 under load, which I was happy with.

now a few hours later under normal use the idle temp has risen to 42 degrees and 78 degrees under 100% load.

Why are my temps so inconsistent, any ideas?

Turning on a system from cold is always going to show lower temps as the fluid will still be reaching equilibrium. The accurate temps will be what it sits at after a few hours of full load.

That's assuming that the contact between the cpu and heat sink is still good, I had some issues when installing my OcUK branded version of the same cooler.

It could just be the coolant heating up over time. My PC has idle temps of 19 - 20°C when I first turn it on (it is very cold in the room where it is) :p but it idles at about 35°C now, having been on for several months. (yes, that's several months straight) excluding resets for updates and software glitches.

I'm using a corsair h70 which is two years old, I get nothing further south of 50 degrees at full load with a 3770k even after 6 hours stress test.

What CPU are you using and are you configured in a push / pull config? What's your room temperature and which way is the airflow going through your case, it should all pretty much be heading one direction and that is towards the rear and exhaust out the top.

Thanks for all the replies, It's an i7 3770k that I'm using and I tried the fans exhausting out the rear when I first installed the cooler, then when I re fitted it I tried the fans drawing in cold air from the rear.

I'll take the cooler off again and see if the heatsink is seated correctly. Not having much luck with this cooler.

Make sure to have some kind of filter if you draw air in from the back. See my old thread with before and after pics of my radiator to see why :D

By any chance has the temp in the room risen during this time?

I think this is going to have to be an RMA; that cooler should be performing much better than that because my idle temperatures are near enough room temperature. I think there is a firmware update for the h80i

I just had a thought make sure there are no fan settings in the motherboard which may cause the pump to work at a slower speed. Such as asus q-fan settings etc. If it is connected to a 3-pin it will be registered as a fan and any fan settings could cause some issues.

Couldn't agree more wish I had known this before because it makes no difference in temperature whether I intake or exhaust. Now my rad grills are covered in dust, warm water and leaving it to dry out in the sun will do the trick though ;-)

I have my WC intaking through the back rather than exhausting cos my 660 is folding most of the time so the air temp inside the case is much higher than outside. I have a demciflexx filter :)

Apples and oranges but I have a rear 120mm fan intaking and a front 120mm one intaking too with three 120mm fans exhausting out the roof (pulling through my 120.3 rad). Both the front and rear vents are filtered as standard on the case and the roof is cut out for the grill.

Do you have the radiator mounted correctly? I know for the H80 you have to have the intake / out of the radiator at the bottom.

I'll get another looks at it later tonight, I think I'll swap the fans back to draw air out from inside the case. The corsair link software says the pump is running around 2400rpm if I remember right. This doesn't appear to be adjustable.

I have been running the fans in the quiet profile, but even with them at full speed the temps don't seem to drop. I'll post my findings later tonight.

Oh an H80i! Sorry, yes there has been quite a lot of problems with their magnetic mounting systems not holding the waterblock against the CPU tight enough. If you press down firmly on the waterblock with the heel of your hand, you should see the temperatures drop.

I have RMA'd two H60 v2's with the same issue, been in contact with some people who have encountered this issue with H100i's, and I have emailed Corsair about it, awaiting a reply.

I'll give that a try. I was reading on another thread that some people have fitted plastic washers to pull the cooler tighter onto the CPU, would you advise trying this?

I tried that on one of them with rubber washers, it did help, but IMO you shouldnt have to. The product isnt fit for purpose as it is.

Right, i have taken off the cooler and re applied thermal paste again.

see below for temps

This first temp is just a few seconds after booting from cold

Ill keep an eye on the temps after a few hours of normal use.
