Newcastle Upon Tyne Pubs

Good god you must be ancient.

That's you in Uni in 1995, so you're presumably in your late 50's or early 60's?
1987-1990 & mid 50s

I can even remember drinking in the Haymarket ;-)

The only place I ever felt threatened was the Biggmarket on a Saturday night - utter bedlam.

Bigmarket is still a cess pit last I was there, which is admittedly a good few years.

I saw some very violent things, oddly enough the worst was in a KFC that existed at the time on a corner.

The Cooperage was a fabulous little pub/venue, but it's in private hands and has closed. The building is basically being left to rot until it falls down and the land can be developed. Sore point for locals that one.

Egypt Cottage also closed around 15 years ago, as did the Barley Mow.

The Strawberry outside St James' is still open - in fact, that's less than 30secs from where I work. Office overlooks St James' Park.
Hello fellow Blaydonite! It really is a small world.

So much has changed in the years since I have had kids, a lot have closed, cannot remember last time I was out drinking.
Work colleagues like Newcastle tap near central station, but not sure if that's the vibe you are going for from the list.

There's a few decent pubs in the Ouseburn. Start in the Cumberland Arms, then have a crawl through a few ending at the Free Trade and enjoy the views along the Tyne.

I've had a few pints in the Victoria Comet beside the train station on a couple of occasions.

Nothing fancy but was decent enough.

These would be my choice… Bodega, Bacchus, Bridge, Crown Posada, Fitzgeralds and Cumberland Arms for bit of 70’s nostalgia in my youth.

That's the one , had many a pint in there before going to city hall for a concert
Was that near Luckies?

Always used to kick off an evening during their happy hour.

I remember it was always a nightmare buying a round because they didn’t reduce the price of a pint, as such, you just got a pint and a half for the usual price so when you were in a group of 5 & it’s your round….

Not complaining though :-)
