The only place I ever felt threatened was the Biggmarket on a Saturday night - utter bedlam.

Bigmarket is still a cess pit last I was there, which is admittedly a good few years.

I saw some very violent things, oddly enough the worst was in a KFC that existed at the time on a corner.

The Irish one you mentioned I think was O’Neill’s. That’s closed too, now the Victoria Comet.

That’s what it was called in the 60s. My old man used to drink there, they affectionately called in the spit and vomit. Cute!

My overriding memory is of the street being awash with urine.

Even the women were squatting in doorways.
