Morning all,

Looking to sort a trip with the mates and was thinking about renting an apartment or a villa type thing for a week in Newquay.

What is the nightlife etc like down there as that's essentially all we will go for? And the beach of course.

It's good, but what time of year?

There's a load of us flying over at the end of the month for a weekend - just so we can go paintballing, grand prix go-karting, pubs etc.

Do you surf?

The nightlife is great, but it can get rough. I have been a fair few times with my (now ex) university surf club and we had a fantastic time. Might have been to do with there being about 40 of us though. Not sure I would enjoy it as much if there was only about 4 of us, it is a bit dodgy.

The beaches are spot on.

The nightlife can be a bit hit and miss... Barracuda is one of the bigger clubs and is pretty good, but there are a few smaller naff ones too.

My favourite evening though, was when they had an open mic night in Walkabout, live bands and comedians :)

If you go 5th-9th August, it's the surf festival - massive bar on the beach and bikini contests ahoy - great fun :D

Boardmasters :)

its a week long festival, they have rpetty mucheverything and the town is buzzing constantly. al lthrough the week theres watersports and different contests, as mentioned above.. and on the weekend theres a music festival, which is always pretty good :)

if theres loads of you then best to book in advance.. we kinda turned up on the day and couldnt find anywhere.. so pitched a tent at Smugglers Haven. about 5 mins walk to the site of the music festival, and 5 mins walk to a bus stop into town!

Newquays good for a night out. loads of pubs/clubs through out the town there any loads of nice beaches, Towan beach is literally right next door to the town centre. There are better beaches near by such as Crantok but there're a bit more out of the way. When do you plan comming down?

newquay is fantastic me and a group of mates have been going every august now for the past 4 yrs camping jut outside town at a place called rose cliston, they provide the tents with electric etc and they have a minibus that takes you into town whenever you want.
nite life is great and usually incident free and there are always loads of offers on due to the comp between the bars. Koola is about the best bar there id say, google it.
the trip on a whole tho can get quite expensive if there's no surf tho as there are so many things to do and see. hope this helps.
p.s me and the mrs went down mid october for a long weekend surfing and its a completely different place offseason, theres still plenty of fun to be had tho for a small group of you... enjoy

I've been to newquay the last 3 years in the summer, camping/hostel and surfing is pretty awesome and has to be done once. But the amount of money you spend you could easily go over to europe and have a better time, which is what I advise you to do.

Tall Tree's went a long time ago, its called Pure now and is just another cheese club :( Although sometimes they do have Hard Dance events on. To the op, depends what time of year you want to go down, anything after May and it starts getting busy up until Sept. Has plently of pubs and nightclubs and beaches and its great if the weathers good :)

Well....

Would be looking at the summer time when the weather is better, so July/August I guess.

None of us surf but can imagine it being fun if 6-10 of us drive down and stay in a big house or something if possible and just enjoy the beach, bars and clubs.

Things like go-karting etc if available definitely sound good.

If the price is comparable to leaving the country then there may not be that much point, but I would have thought people sharing the traveling costs down there and the accomodation it would be a fair bit cheaper.

Any thoughts?

we stayed at
http://www.reefsurflodge.info/
it's about a 2min stumble from the main run of bars / clubs / pubs
they do surf lessons as well
not a 'villa', but anything like that is likely to be way out of the centre
loved newquay - but went in october - not sure i could cope with how crazy it gets in the summer!

Howdy.

Barracuda is no more. As with a couple of other places as they have gone into administration. A lot of the clubs are owned by the same owners and a lot of messy business stuff has been going down.

At the moment night life is dead. Won't pick up until the summer.

Pure opened last year. I used to work there when it opened but it was dead and lack of hours. Pure has also gone into administration. I told them the prices were too high but they decided not to listen.

Chy/Koola, Sailors and Berties are pretty much the only decent clubs left.

Nightlife isn't that rough. Just ignore everything and I really mean it. The bouncers will normally spot anything and take them out.

I couldn't really suggest anywhere to stay but I wouldn't say there was anywhere you could go wrong. A place outside Newquay called Atlantic Reach would be a good place to stay for a week. Taxi to Newquay is about £15 so if you are with a small group it's cheap. I used to work there and stayed in one of the apartments for a night. Was nice and there is a Restaurant and Bar on site as well as gym and swimming pool.

Crantock Beach is a must. Best beach around here. Used to live there and it was something I didn't take advantage of enough.

Any questions just give me a shout. Mind you I hate Newquay so they may be biased.

Went to newquay in 1983 i had great memories as an 8 year old child with about 12 family members, had not been back since, then in 2006 i went down with my fiance what a **** hole, run down and very overated, they say its great for surfing,i have seen bigger waves in a toilet man no joke!Me and my fiance actually left a day earlier than we planned,i wish i had left my memories back in 1983 and not bothered going in 2006,saying that your with the Lads so you will probably enjoy it:)

same.
always seems to be somthing going down.
best option is to get out before everywhere else closes for the night.
newquay has the nightlife but truro has better bars

L2 has gone into administration and Bunters is it? Think that's closed as well now.

Actually I think someone's buying L2... I really don't know it's all messed up lol.

As far as I know Bunters is still open, but is up for sale along with L2 and The Corn Exchange in Camborne. Not the end of the world really, though Bunters is good for watching the rugby.
