I've been with Easynews for 4 years but after doing a little bit of research I've decided to try Newshosting.
£80 for 12 months unlimited sounds excellent.
Any good or bad points about them?

i'm using their 70+day unlimited account and have no issues, pretty much maxes out my 10meg con all the time :)

Thanks for that.

Easynews has an amazing front end and you don't have to have a Newsreader. It has an excellent search facility called Global 4 which even brings up thumbnails of peoples home movies etc and samples of their home made MP3's.
All newsgroups are shown within the web browser and looks similar to a newsreader. Obviously you can also use the old fashioned way and put your details in a newsreader.
I've been with a Usenet search engine for four years (www.binnews.com) and only last night found out how to create NZB files with it so that I can use a newsreader + Newshosting.

2nd question -

How do you guys search for all your LINUX OS's and games demos on Newshosting?
Surely downloading headers would take forever?

1st off newshosting have been excellent for me for the last 3 years always maxxed out my connection,

2ndly you can look for nzb sites to get all your needs from, dont know rules on this so not going to mention any, but if u search google hard enough you will find some good free ones.

I have been with newshosting for a few weeks, it's pretty good, but not fast enough to max my 22mbps. I get about 1.25 MB/s though so it's good enough (350MB file in under 5 mins). I use binsearch.info and a.n.nl for searching and NewsLeecher :)

I've been inclined to try newshosting but never did, I'm with giganews and their 20 connections package with encryption. It's a little bit expensive but i always get 900kbs with my 8mb ADSL Max from BT

Newshosting and NTL seem to have some speed issues at peak times, so be wary if your on NTL cable.

I hear giganews is better but its a little more expensive.

From about 14:30 yesterday up until now there has been no speed issues and I'm on NTL.
I sometimes get it with Easynews though.

I can't see how Giganews can be any better unless its cheaper (which its not).

I've just paid £80 for 12 months Unlimited but I'm keeping Easynews because its got the best search engine you'll ever see.
A lot of Easynews members have never seen it so here it is - Easynews Global

Folks, let's keep Newsgroup-related threads on the right side of the law, shall we. I've lost count of how many I've had to close because people just couldn't resist. If that trend continues, suspensions may follow. You have been warned.

This isn't newshosting causing the problems. Its NTL with port throttling. When my download speed drops when connected to newshosting, my whole whole connection drops to that speed and it can be as low as 512k!

Like I said, its NTL and not newshosting.

If that was the case, then why would I get sub-500KB/sec speeds from Newshosting but constantly 1200KB/sec speeds from Giganews? No matter what day it is or what time of day, I can always pull 1200KB/sec.

You're right to a point - it is NTL and not Newshosting because NTL have some bizarre routing going on, I believe. The problem is not port throttling though; or at least, not in all areas anyway.

Sorry if I p***** you off. I have tried giganews and it did max my connection at the time. But when newshosting is going slow for me, anything else I try and do goes slow as well, which is why I was blaming NTL.

Not at all mate :) Didn't mean to come across as sounding aggressive or anything - you're most likely correct as cable can vary greatly across different regions.
