Next best thing to an iPhone

I can't justify spending so much on an iPhone, so what's the next best thing in terms of quality and functionality?

Went from a 3GS and to a SGS with Darky's rom loving the move, OS not quite as polished but you can do what you like with the phone and the screen is beter than the iPhone 4. get nearly two days battery out of mine.

Depends what you want and how much you got to spend.

If you must have the iphone experience but cant afford (or cant justify) the outlay then a s/h 3gs might suffice at £250 ish

Otherwise for £225 ish you could get a s/h HTC desire and run a custom rom (MIUI rom is similar in look and feel to the iOS)

Lots of differing answers available depending on your requirements and budget........

Thanks for the replies. I'd say the budget is about £300-350 and I don't mind what OS but I really do want the quality of build an iPhone 4 offers, including battery time.

As already said, look at the Galaxy S, and the Desire HD, although I'd say they're not the next best, the iphone is the next best compared to them

Might want to have a look at the Motorola Defy, similar specs to the Desire and is better in many ways. Put a custom ROM on it to get rid of all the Motoblur rubbish and you'd have something far better than any iPhone.

OP, check out the Motorola Defy (~£250) or a PAYG SGS on clearance (~£299)
A s/h HTC Desire + spare battery is another good option!

The 4 is amazing but there's loads of better an cheaper phones than the 3GS now

To be honest it's more like saying 'the next best thing to a Nissan Micra is a Ford Fiesta'. Better in every conceivable way... although it is cheaper.

Their point was that 'something Android based' could be anything, from a rubbish little £70 thing to a top of the range device that blows everything else in it's class away.
