Next car help. Any car suggestions?

With me going Uni the car will be a pure toy really so won't be doing milage. Therefore I don't care about mpg in any way really. Also I am the sort of person to try to fix things myself and always have a good go at it if something is wrong. I have whatever I sell my Focus for (~£3.5k) to spend. Now onto the cars.

1984-89 Mk1 MR2

Now I personally find the Mk1 the best out of the different age MR2's. The space isn't an issue with it also as I hardly ever have much luggage.

~126bhp 1.6 16v straight 4 (5 speed)
0-60 = 8 seconds
~950kg

1973-80 Triumph Dolomite Sprint

Bit different but I have always liked them ever since Mohinder introduced me to them. I am going to see Lashout UK's one next week hopefully so I can see one in more detail then you can at a car show. I love the interior with solid pine front dash. May have to fit retractable seatbelts, wing mirrors and head rests though if the one I buy does not have them. Can get the power fairly easy to 180bhp which makes it really quite quick.

127-150bhp 2.0 16v straight 4 (4 speed OD)
0-60 = 8.7 seconds
~975kg

1966-73 Triumph GT6

The oldest one out of the cars on the list. The sound they make is just brilliant, heard one power it and oh my it was nice! They are very small cars with not that much space inside them but I can manage with it not being the most practical car about. I will not want to get a Mk1 (1966-68) due to the rear suspension was not the best on them, meant it suffered with lots of lift off oversteer. Another car to gain power fairly easy, though I don't know as much about this engine as i do with the Dolomites.

~105bhp 2.0 straight 6 (4 speed OD)
0-60 = 9.4 seconds
~810kg

So what are your opinions then?

With the older cars that you're looking at, are you prepared to get your hands dirty? I'd think that cars like that would need a fair bit of mechanical knowledge to keep running well :)

Ohh yes I am. I'm good at working out/learning these sort of things. In the past I have learnt vast amounts so I can do stuff myself, like with my RC stuff. I know how to build myself a DC 3 phase brushless motor. So err yes, in short I will be ok with working on it. :)

It'd be the MR2 for me!

Any reasons? You're the first to suggest it. On another forum only the GT6 and Dolly has been suggested.

thefullcollapse, Is that to me? If so around sept.

thought you were after an mx-5?

Seeing as though it won't be my money, or my car, or my problem when it breaks... i say get a gt6, they look gorgeous.

The newer Mr2 is nicer so look into that.

I'm talking around 1994 2 litre turbo :)

Go like stink :D

Andy

I totally hate them, like i said in my first post. :) I only like the Mk1, stick a 20v 4A-GE in one and that wouldn't be bad. It is the highest out of the 3 though for insurance.

olv, Money reasons the mx5 isn't there. Only problem you can't get mega amount out of the GT6 engine without cash behind you.

Not on the insurance it isn't. The quotes I'm getting I could insure an S13 200SX for the same price as the mx5 for example. Whereas the Dolly I can insure for ~£800-900.

For me, it'd be the dolly as they are lovely little cars. Ok, liable to break down but fun nevertheless!

An MR2 might be slightly more reliable and easier to get spares for though

I'd go for the mk1 mr2 :)

It's the quickest (at stock) and most likely the most reliable. But on the other hand none of the cars are bad, don't particularly like the front of the dolly but the interior looks great, and the GT6 is lovely.

Kappa, Yeah you can but if I'm honest it doesn't excite me much if I'm honest.

Firestar_3x, UK Mk1 1.8's. :(

SKILL, Only problem is modding the MR2 cost's quite a bit don't it?
