Next car help.

Just to give people an idea of size, here is a pic of a GT6 next to a mk1 Golf.

I'll refrain from offering advice because I'm biased and I know nothing about either of the triumphs.

Get an MR2 ;)

I assume when you refer to 'modding' the MR2 being expensive you mean power increases? Yes it is expensive primarily because it's already a good engine and it's N/A hence there's no cheap power available. You end up with a choice between spending lots on tuning the 4-AGE or spending a fair bit on an engine swap.

I assume you've already seen this but here's an idea of what will need doing to tune the 4-AGE:

Yup I haven't heard the end about what can be done to the mk1 MR2's engine from SKILL.

Say like compared to the Dolomite, just by getting a new exhaust system it ups it from 127bhp to 150bhp.

Mk1 MR2 For the win :D

You know you want to and you know its right.

When you get bored of one engine, get the guide from Two brutal and put a bigger one in :D

Engine swaps arnt as expensive as you might think if you learn to do it your self and get help from people that have done it before :)

Ill find out how much an engine swap should cost for ya :)

Though first of all there is the insurance problem. The MR2 is the most expencive to insure.

Lashout_UK came up with a good idea. Get a 2.0 GT6, then buy a 2.5 straight 6 from a TR6/2500/2.5PI for like £100. Then I can mod that then swap it over with the 2.0 in the GT6. Then it will have a lot more power and sound lovely. Just costs more than the Dolly.

Just what is the most fun to drive though ;) :D

Not sure yet. Because remember speed != fun. The Dolly I went in today looked real fun even though it was travelling like 20mph slower than I had driven in my Focus a few minutes later, though my Focus wasn't that fun really.

Depends what you mean by fun, i get fun driving through town at 30mph and getting ppl looking at me and other mx5 drivers waving.

But i also get lots of fun blasting down a back road a some mph ;)

BTW The 84-86 MK1s are the lightest of the lot Mk1s.

From 87-89 they put on a few kilos so are just over a 1000kgs

The superchanged models are the Heavyest of the lot though.

Just incase that helps :)

It used to be you telling me about these cars :p

And all the stuff you are telling me about the Mk1 MR2 I already know. ;) The Mk1a the one being made between 87-89, the engine was lighter in them but it could not take so much load. They made it stronger for the supercharger in 89 hense why they weighed more.

I'd say that there's next to no weight difference between a mk1a and mk1b with sunroof, the heavier cars are the t-bars (which are mk1b only) as they have extra reinforcement in the chassis.

You got the years wrong a bit :p

And see you know lots about the MK1 MR2 so you should get one because obviously thats where your knowledge lies :D

You also don't realise how much I know about Dollys. ;) That's what makes it hard, it's not like I don't know much on each car. Need to go test drive a mk1 sometime.

Edit - The Dolly owns the MR2 with interiors.

No shortage of them around your way, the mk1 club is practically run from Loughborough. Alternatively I'm not THAT far away if you fancy popping over, or there's the Silverstone meet in a couple of weeks time ;)

Got one quote on an engine swap :D

If you mean the turbo swap (3s-gte) then i'd say i've spent under 1,500 easily.]If you mean the turbo swap (3s-gte) then i'd say i've spent under 1,500 easily.

Thats is your money, Pounds :)

More to come though :)

Well how far are you from Loughborough? ;) Just today I travelled for 80 minutes to Lashout_UK's house to go see his Dolly. :p

Zip,

If I was to do an engine swap then it would be to a 20v 4AGE. Even a standard MR2 is like £1300 on insurance. Whereas I'm looking at £900, if that for a Dolly.

About 2 1/2 hours so maybe not that close really, but from here that makes loughborough seem pretty close as I'm used to a 2 hr drive just to get to the major road network. :p

20v swap is too expensive to be worth it as the engines are difficult to get in this country for a sensible price, I'm currently leaning towards the camry V6 swap.

BOO!!!!
Damm your rapping insurance prices.

Anyway, you could always keep it as a plan for the future :D

heres another quote for you from the same guy anyway:)

Yep - and I got a whole car costing £800... all I've bought with signifiacnt cost is the engine gasket set @ £50ish, clutch set £120ish, CV joints @ £90 and then a few other minor bits... it all depends on how much you want to go to town, and how much of a bargain you can find regarding your donor car. If you can do a £250 clip like a couple peeps here have, then I think a £1k conversion is easily do-able

Bit far. :p May have to try and find a friendly local MR2 owner round this way. Just how will I do that I don't know.
