Next Gen Consoles

I just read an article on Fudzilla that said Microsoft were announcing Dx11 in a few weeks, which is apparently going to begin being implemented in late 2009, link here.

In any case I don't think the next gen consoles are due for a while.

MS will be pulling off the same move they did with DX10, with the launch of Windows 7 DX 11 will be launched alongside.

i miss my dreamcast.. :( a collab console by both parties would be good. id rather it go back to normal game pad's though. the wiimote is good innovation, but not so good when ive had a crap day at work and cant be bothered to swing my arms about.. saying that i guess thats what VC is for.

In all fairness, the majority of games I play don't actually require any motion at all. Pointer, yes. Those that do require minimal movement.

The Wii 2 will just surely refine the existing Wii controls, maybe add an internal HDD, bring in HD capability... Probably something wacky no-one will think of.

I dont wanna get into an argument, i trust the people who told me as they work in the games industry themselves.
Oh please, lets not play the "I know people in the industry" card, because I know plenty of people who work in games, and not one of them has ever mentioned the next generation, or having dev kits for it. How can you have dev kits for something that has no finalised hardware yet? The idea is just silly.

I'm sure they could start working towards the next-gen though. Also I'm positive I read that before the launch of either the 360 or PS3 (can't remember which) the developers were slow to receive dev kits, yet were still 'making' games for the console. Obviosuly they would have had a rough idea of finalised specs at that point though.

Oh yeah, but that's just it. They'll start towards making next-gen games simply by using the current-gen dev kits they already have, as they did last time (as you mention). The Wii's graphics libraries are near-identical to the Gamecube's, which were fairly similar to the N64's, so you can bet any new Nintendo console will probably be similar. Likewise, any new Xbox is bound to be another DirectX-based machine, and having now invested so much in it, Sony are likely to stick with another Cell-based system if they release a new console any time soon.

You don't neccesarily need a next-gen dev kit to start making games for the next-gen consoles, and the idea that they'd bring out dev kits before anything is remotely finalised, or there's anything to actually play the games on, is silly.
