Next Gen Consoles

I'm not sure that they do, from what i've read I reckon games developers don't get their hands on the dev kits until around a year before the console release.

For example: Final Fantasy X, development started in 1999 with the PS2 being released mid to late 2000, so they didn't have long before the release.

They get the final dev kits later on yea, but those go through a few versions before they get to that stage.

I dont wanna get into an argument, i trust the people who told me as they work in the games industry themselves. If you dont believe it, then that is your choice, but the next gen consoles have probably already been in development for some time, it isnt far fetched to suggest that early dev kits might be around.

im sure its already been reported some devs are working on games for the next xbox
not so ridiculous and obviously things change but its not wrong to say they are already working on it

I expect the next Xbox (no it wont be called the 720!) to be announced 2009, possibly on sale "holiday period" 2009 but more likely it'll go on sale 2010.
Sony has said the PS3 life-cycle is 10 years, but that doesn't rule-out a new console (PS4, can't see why they wouldn't call it that) within that 10 year period; I mean look at the PS2, that is still being made and updated, so still within it's life-cycle.
TBH I don't have a clue when Sony will announce the PS4, I honestly don't think they fancy playing catch-up with Microsoft again.

Then again one of them could surprise everyone and announce they are withdrawing from the console market lol.

I could believe MS might have sent out some documents talking about standards etc but if sony are already sending stuff out they are going to go the way of sega. You cant dump on devs by releasing new stuff, before they have got the already complex to code for current tech games out.

Ahahahahaha!

but the next gen consoles have probably already been in development for some time

DUH! Development started the second the current gen consoles design was finalised and they started being manufactured.

Tit isnt far fetched to suggest that early dev kits might be around.

It hasn't happened.

Diddums.

Anyway, I doubt the next xbox will have a number in its name, I presume it will just be given a special name like the way Nintendo name their handhelds (Game boy color, Gameboy Advance).

It makes sense, because they can only really call it Xbox3 in numbering terms and that immediately causes confusion amongst the uninformed between Xbox360 and Xbox3.

Just hope it's nothing too ridiculously Americanized, but they're simple minded people so it will probably be called the Xbox POWER or something equally tacky.

Sponsored by Jeremy Clarkson.

Nintendo's innovation and superior business sense + Sega's "cool" and desire for technical competence = \o/

i miss my dreamcast.. :( a collab console by both parties would be good. id rather it go back to normal game pad's though. the wiimote is good innovation, but not so good when ive had a crap day at work and cant be bothered to swing my arms about.. saying that i guess thats what VC is for.
