Anyone else really excited about HDR? I am very much. First High refresh rate/Freesync monitor to support this will be on my shopping list. Some other Demos in the video but its all about HDR for me.

Yeah, I would love to have a 4K 60Hz OLED HDR monitor with a big Freesync range. Even if it is not OLED, I would be happy.

Really looking forward to HDR :D

Good Question.

Well you can imagine it will be gouged, a lot if not most of the current crop of 4K TV's have HDR now, i know mine does.

Also my Google Nexus 6P has HDR and you can actually notice the vibrance of photos compared to my wifes Sony Z5 which arguably has the best camera in a Mobile Phone. My cameras photos often look a whole lot more vibrant than hers, although her cameras resolution is miles ahead of mine.

OVerall i definitely noticed a difference with it.

Yeah HDR camera capture has been around for years now. My old HTC desire had it, all phones I have owned since then has had it.

Yes. Far more interested in HDR than higher resolutions. Though I imagine it is inseparable from 4K - if not technologically then when it comes to buying it. A 1440p 120Hz Freesync HDR monitor would be the only monitor I could ever see myself needing.

But I doubt that's what we'll see. Also, a dread the pricing on the HDR monitors when they're first released. :(

I read that HDR gives you little when using with a monitor its more suitable for a large screen TV viewed at regular/average viewing difference. As it loses impact sitting close to the screen.

the games need to support it first tho right?
i was playing the new battlefield and thinking wow it would look so good with HDR
i wonder if its something they can add after? i duno how it works on the pc still:o

That certainly seems to be some dis-information as HDR improves your colour due to the increase dynamic range regardless of screen size. Yes it may be more obvious cause it is physically easier to see on a larger screen but that doesn't change the output being improved be it on a 5" phone screen or an 83" tv screen.

Although other things are to considered like the depth of view that a larger screen gives that is relative to increase of resolution and similar, not dependant direct to HDR.

One specialist even suggest that it would be more notable on smaller screens to large as the impact is greater to the viewer than say moving from HD to UHD directly without HDR implemented.

Cost will be high as with any new technology. LED backlit displays probably aren't suitable for HDR at typical PC monitor screen sizes as most use local diming zones to achieve the required contrast performance. Cramming hundreds of these into a 28-32" display may not be feasible. Which leaves you with OLED.

When it comes to OLED LG Display are really the only game in town at the moment and while they have talked about the PC display market, right now, I suspect all their capacity is going into the TV market. The new production line they are building to increase capacity isn't due online until 2017.

TL;DR don't expect anything soon and when it does arrive expect to pay for it.

This would certainly be possible via updates in future. At moment Forza 3 and Gears Of War 4 are noted to be HDR by Microsoft. This is likely to be HDR-10 rather than the much greater Dolby Vision as you need additional hardware to process Dolby Vision.

Once there is a clear winner on which version of HDR then I feel more games/monitors etc will start to adopt.

would they need to redo all the textures you think?
it needs to display enough colors right?
